Sample Case Study In Social Work
Client’s name is Valerie Porter. She is 65 years of age with a history of gallbladder operation in 1975, anterior collateral ligament right knee surgery in 2011. She is currently taking Naproxen 500 mg, Lisinopril 40 mg, Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg, and Simvastatin 20 mg. Her vital signs are; BP 132/86 mmHg on the right arm, 72 rpm, 20 bpm. Client’s states last radiographs were on June 6, 2017. She brushes her teeth twice a day with a medium toothbrush, flosses twice a day, and uses a mouth rinse. Upon oral examination, the client’ reveals generalize pale pink gingiva and localized purpulished red tooth number 25 and 26. She has a evidence recession on tooth number 2,3,4,5,6,7,11,12,13,17,18,22,23,25,26,28,29 and 31 on the buccal surfaces. After the periodontal assessment and dental history questionnaire the gingival recession of the client is caused by hard tooth brushing. Upon comparing the client’s previous periodontal assessment, I noticed the gingival recession progress from 1mm to 2mm. I would like to motivate my client in …show more content…
The client stated my tooth brushing technique are not well. My response was, your tooth brushing is good but we need to modify it a little bit. My client did show motivational to change her tooth brushing habits and was not coerced by me. We were able to establish a realistic goal that the client can meet. In my future motivational interview, I will practice my interview with a fellow student to get the best critique and also to feel at ease during the interview. For her next dental visit, I will ask her to demonstrate the proper tooth brushing technique and flossing so I can gain her understanding and behavior change. Motivational interview gives a method for the client to be in control of their dental habits to last for a lifetime. The client must be wiling to change on their own without any outside influence. The dental hygienist must have a good communicational skills in order to help client embrace healthy
