Creation vs. Evolution

On November 24, 1859, a man named Charles Darwin started a controversy that has lasted to present day. His work, entitled "Origin of Species", stated the possibility that humans were not created but evolved from natural processes. Although, he was not the first to express these ideas, Darwin's published theory was neither accepted nor appreciated by the religious community. Creationism, as believed in religion, assumes that the creation story in Genesis is accurate; that God created the universe and all life forms (lawyernet.com). The term evolution basically translates to alterations through

As a new wave of science emerged under those such as Charles Darwin in the 1920s, conflicts soon emerged between science and religion. After much research, Charles Darwin proposed a new Theory of Evolution, claiming that all living things were on Earth due to long term genetic mutations between species. By claiming humans came from a common ancestor to apes Darwin rejected the religious belief of divine creation expressed in the Bible. Social conflict quickly emerged between Modernists (who believed in Evolution), and Fundamentalists (who believed in creation), and heated debates grew over what concept to teach in school. A prime example of this conflict was the Scopes Trial, in which a high school teacher was tried, found guilty, and fined…

Before Darwin, people believed that species were unconnected, unrelated and unchanged since the moment of their creation. They also believed that people were not part of the natural world and were superior to every other species. Darwin’s theory challenged these traditional views. Many people either still believed in the 6 day creation theory, or thought that the idea of apes being our ancestors hard to believe, and preferred ancient stories of creation.…

Charles Darwin in 1859 published On the Origin of Species, he explained his theory of evolution. He presented evidence that would further explained his reasoning. The first Darwin looked at the fossils and looked at the geological layers. Next compared the structural of the human hand, bird wing, and a cat paw and hinted that we come from common ancestors. His finally observation was the dramatic change in domestic plants and animals by selective breeding. Darwin believed that species started to change their structure, psychology, and behavior that would help with…

Since the 19th century, biologists have questioned the origin of life, asking the question "How did life first begin?" To answer that question, they have come up with two contradicting yet plausible theories, Creation and Evolution. The theory of Creation states that an intelligent being designed each organism. On the other hand, the theory of Evolution states that some form of stimuli sparked one of the earliest forms of life and that every single organism living today evolved from it. Starting with the evidence and the criticism for the theory of Evolution, this paper will provide the main arguments and criticism for both theories and explain why Creation is the true explanation for the origin of the world.…

Galileo’s discovery of sunspots in 1612 challenged Aristotelian way of viewing the world as perfect. Galileo embodied a new way of thinking which entailed questioning traditionally accepted belief about the natural world. More than two hundred years later in 1859, Darwin published On the Origin of Species. The work also challenged people’s traditional views of the natural world, but it did so by indirectly destructing the narrative in the book of Genesis. According to Genesis, God created Adam and Eve, whom he placed in the garden of Eden.…

Creationism and Evolutionism by definition are very different topics. Currently, evolutionary naturalism is the most widely taught view of origins in America. In schools in the modern day, only evolutionism is taught and condoned. But before the 1920s, only creationism was taught, and evolution was forbidden. Then, on February 20, 2008, the Florida State Board of Education voted to revise the public school guidelines to require teachers to teach only Evolutionism. The law was passed with a very narrow 4-to-3 vote in favor of the law. Our resolution (affirmative side) is to teach both the theories of evolution and creationism side by side. This would provide a fair and equal education that lets our generation and future generations choose their freedom to religion as much as possible.…

The ancestor of all life lived approximately 3.5 billion years ago. Needless to say, since then, many species that once existed in the past are no longer around today. A species can become extinct for a variety of reasons such as climate change, natural catastrophe, or depravation of resources. The species that is better adapted for these changes will survive and those who are not will at some point no longer exist. This process is referred to as natural selection. Due to natural selection, we have evolution as a result. Evolution is the process by which previous organisms affect the development of future organisms. Natural selection is often referred to as survival of the fittest because those with the most desirable traits will outlast…

Charles Darwin is a naturalist who first began to investigate his interest in natural science with his study of finches on the Galapagos Islands. It is said that this study is the one that sparked his interest in developing his evolutionary theory. He is the author of On the Origin of Species, published in 1859, which he later built upon to write the Descent of Man which he published in 1871. He is well known for the development of the theory of evolution in which he puts forth the idea that humans evolve from apes through natural and sexual selection. At the time, the theory of evolution was dynamic and in high opposition. While the theory of evolution is still known today as a scientific breakthrough, Darwin’s scientific representation of the so-called “superiority” of the male, physically and mentally, over the female has been detrimental to the freedom of the female, which can still be seen to this day.…

For years, there has been the argument whether or not evolution or creationism was more probable. Creationists like John D. Morris has “called attention to the fact that small changes do not lead to true evolution.” (Morris) Yet, famous evolutionists such as Richard Dawkins always asks, “Do you seriously mean to tell me you believe that all life was created within a week?” (Dawkins) when creationists try to explain that the World was brought to existence in 7 days. Evolution exists because there is hard evidence, such as fossils and petrified impressions that the world slowly came to be over millions of years.…

The battle between creationists and evolutionists in America has a long and virulent history in which public schools have been unavoidably involved. This contest between the creationists and evolutionists began with the 1859 publication of Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, which Michael Ruse describes as, “one of the most significant and controversial works of the age—of any age—most particularly because the book was seen to challenge long-held views about religion, specifically the Christian religion and its claims about creation and about the nature of God, of humans, and of our relationship to God” (1). In his work, Darwin demonstrates that existing organic structures developed from much simpler organisms by natural processes.…

The two questions that almost every person has asked or thought about is “From where did I come from?” and “Where did everything start?” From these questions people have formed their own answers and religions to satisfy their hunger for a solution; but if one was to truly open their eyes and see the beauty in the world, they would come to the conclusion that there had to be a “Designer” who created the universe and the living beings who roam the earth. Many people have denied the fact that God is the Creator of all things, thus forming their own “Designer,” which forms their worldview or religion; however, there are others who have also denied God being the Creator of the universe, but instead of forming their…

    * There is a question that I ask myself very often, it is a question that doesnt have an answer. How was the world created? There are different theories on that theme, but here are 2 man theories in which we believe in, the Big Bang theory (scientific theory) and the Creation theory (religious theory). We cannot say that one theory is right and one is wrong because they both have evidence to back them up. How was the world created, is just one of many questions that will probably be a mistery for a very long time.…
