growing up, but he has no choice since his dad is the person who can lead the expedition to find the "cup that gives everlasting life." Throughout the movie, Indy and his father finally talk to each other about their feelings while going after the Holy Grail.
At the end of the movie, Indiana and his father have patched things up and finally established the relationship they always wanted to have. By trying to save the Holy Grail along with the world, Indiana Jones is forced to open up to his father which makes him feel better as a person and he is able to see that he does care about his father. If he did not help his father or go after the Holy Grail, the Nazis would win and he would never forgive hid dad. The transformation into a sympathetic person is common many times in books as well. In the novel series Harry Potter it is not the main character who has this development since he already has the trait. It is actually his rival at school- Draco Malfoy. In the beginning of the series Malfoy is portrayed as a bully and wants to be more popular than Harry. When Malfoy gets in trouble, he normally has to help someone as punishment. In the near end of the series, he starts to have doubts that he wants to act like a bully and doesn't want to do the evil stuff his father wants him to do. look down upon. The final action that changes him is that he was saved by the student he hated- Harry Potter. The situation is cliche in many stories; the rivals become friends because one of them showed mercy to the other. Becoming a different person because of helping others is very common in the real world too.
It happens so often that normally we do not remember those people. They end up being forgotten and their stories are overlooked. We only look at their story if it affects us in some way, shape, or form. An example of one that was not forgotten is the soviet leader during the Cold War- Gorbachev. Gorbachev was a communist leader of Russia who planned to beat the United States in the Cold War. Due to problems in Russia originating from the slow recovery from WWII, Gorbachev made changes and saw how the country was falling. Citizens were in desperate need for supplies, shelter, and allies. United States President at the time, Ronald Reagan, demanded that Gorbachev tear down the Berlin Wall which divided Germany in two for both the U.S. and Russia. Gorbachev knew his country wouldn't be able to survive the war so he tore down the wall and the peace between Russia and the rest of the world slowly started to build. The Russians were able to become friendly with citizens from other countries which enabled the country to flourish. It is common to change after seeing the people who are damaged. Everyone changes somehow in this situation at least once in their lifetime. It is in human nature to be majorly
affected by tragic events. Some people may not show it, but they do change in someway after experiencing the tragedy that they may have created. So Gandhi was right- helping others can help find your true self.
