Usually the plot tells the readers many things about the theme of a story, such as the theme of fear. In 1984, one of the main things that were emphasized in the plot was thought crime, which allows the party to limit the citizens thinking and keeps them in check. That is because the citizens are afraid to be “vaporized”, which could also happen to their loved ones who commit thought crime. The characters winston and julia overcame their fear overtime, when they realised that it is all a lie and that thoughtcrime does not exist. Then they were caught due to a hidden telescreen. The source of fear through Thoughtcrime is from the party which keeps its citizens in check by making theme fear thoughtcrime through mind games. This tied to the main character by making it harder for him to even think to retaliate against the party. That shows that the thoughtcrime method to keep the citizens in check worked. Similarly, in King lear’s plot, Lear hands over his power to his evil daughters and banished cordelia his youngest and most honest daughter , kent fears that king lear is wrong for banishing cordelia and dividing the lands amongst his other daughters because he loves king Lear and does not want him to make rash decisions which will come back to harm him in the end.
