Beowulf was a very interesting book. It filled my mind with detailed images. My opinion is that the movie was better. Instead of filling my mind with images, I got to see what the characters looked like instead of just imagining it. Between Beowulf the film and book, there are a few similarities and many differences.
One similarity between the movie and book is that God is the protector. Throughout the movie, Beowulf always acknowledges God as his protector. In the battle between Beowulf and Grendel’s mother, Beowulf states that God protected him. And if God didn’t protect him, the battle could have ended in a different way. In the book, Hrothgar tells Beowulf that the King is a grace of God.
Another similarity is the
meaning of the mead-hall. The mead-hall, Heorot, is a setting and a symbol of the book and movie. It is basically a home, but in a palace type way. The King and his warriors sleep, eat, hold ceremonies, and celebrate victories and rewards. The hall is symbolic to Beowulf. It was the place of Beowulf’s first great battle where he defeated Grendel.
Also, when fighting Grendel, Beowulf doesn’t use any weapons. Beowulf rips Grendel’s arm
