Waves crash against the shore. The sand is tickling my toes while I read an unforgettable book. One of my favorite things to do is read. Reading is fun and improves vocabulary. When I read, I get immersed in another world. I would bring along the books Wonder, The Running Dream, and Switched at Birthday because the characters persevere, there is unexpected friendship and a little love.

First, the characters in the books Wonder, The Running Dream, and Switched at Birthday all persevere. In Wonder, August has a deformed face while going to school. On top of that, he has to deal with bullies that make fun of him. Even with these difficulties August even makes some awesome friends. The Running Dream has a character named Jessica who is in a car accident which causes her leg to be amputated below the knee. She was a runner who wants to run again. Luckily, her friends are determined to raise money for a prosthetic leg. In Switched at Birthday, Lavender and Scarlet have the same birthday and somehow end up in each others’ bodies the next day. They both are trying to find out what caused the switch and how to act like the other person since they have totally different personalities. August, Jessica, Lavender and Scarlet all persevere.

Palacio is “Beauty comes from within.” Several examples in the text refer back to Jack’s view of the events, and when he thought to himself about how at first he only sat by and hung out with Auggie because Mr. Tushman asked him to, then he started to realize how cool Auggie was on the inside, and how great and sweet his personality was, and he felt bad about it. He also continues to go as far as saying, “once you get used to his face, he is actually a pretty funny kid.” Another example of textual evidence is when Summer tells the story from her point of view, and she explains to the readers that she doesn’t feel sorry for him anymore by saying, “I should also say that I don’t really feel sorry…
