Confidence
Time management
Patience
Flexibility
Leadership
I believe that this list of competencies is a list of what a good trainer must have in order to be successful. A confident trainer will show the trainees what they need to learn and if the trainer is confident it will reassure the trainees that all the information that they are learning is accurate and useful. The time management is also very important because as a trainer you don’t want to run out of time and not cover enough of the material that the trainees need to learn but you also don’t want to finish the training with lots of time left because that could be considered unprofessional and also a waste of company time and money. Patience is a very important attribute to have regardless of your profession but especially when training people. If you get upset or angry when someone doesn’t understand the way you are trying to teach them the information then the trainee will likely shut down and you will lose that person for the rest of the session. Patience leads into flexibility. You have to be flexible when you are training different kinds of people. Not everyone is going to understand the way that you teach something the first time so if you are flexible in your teaching methods you will be able to teach the different types of learning styles and also be able to give different examples to help people learn the material better. Leadership is also very important because if you lack leadership skills you will not be able to keep the attention of the session you are supposed to lead. The trainees will not take what you are saying seriously and be more likely to lose their attention span.
Of these competencies I would say that my strongest is confidence as I do not fear public speaking and am very comfortable in a role where I have the attention on me. The weakest competency is definitely my patience. I am very short tempered and find it difficult to understand where others are coming
