What is the competency? One of the responsibilities of becoming a special education teacher is creating a behavior plan to support students learning. In competency 5 Managing the Teaching and Learning Environment 5.4 and 5.6 goes over the support students will need when having behavior support. Competency 5.6 states the importance of supporting students behavior by working with all members involved in the students daily school schedule. The student is given the needed support for their behavior by the educator finding resources for the student to follow procedures (****). Competency 5.4 is the role of the educator to obey by the legal and school policy to support the students behavior and take the needed procedures to keep student accountable …show more content…
I took the appropriate procedures of the school district and legal responsibility as a special education teacher to assist the student to remain accountable for her behavior. When she was able to collect her 10 starts she was explained why she did not receive them and when she did receive them I took the same procedures of explaining to the student. Explaining to the reasoning of the token board allowed the student to have an understanding of her behavior. Eventually, the student was able to explain her own behavior and the reason of why she did or did not receive a star. Using a behavior plan to support the student increase her completion of work and ability to remain focus on lessons. Introducing the token board to the student and adults inside the classroom demonstrates how competency 5.6 was enforced to keep the student accountable with all the adults the student interacts. Each adult knew the expectations for the student, but also how as a team the student can receive the needed support. Competency 5.4 keeps the special education accountable of implementing the behavior support that follows the school policies. The token board procedures were attached to the students IEP and explained to the parents regarding of how it will support the student. The token board it a positive behavior support which motivates the students to decrease the amounts they participate in the off-task behavior. Implementing a behavior plan motived the student to eliminate the off-task behavior demonstrates the effective method of the token board. The data I collected about the student and the personal information I collected on the students gave me a plan on how to motivate the student to become successful at

For example, we wash our hands be fore we eat, sneeze ,cough, before we start a new activity , before we eat snack, after we use the restroom. Before I take my class outside I do a playground safety check to make sure that the playground is safe for my children to play and free from dangerous hazards that can hurt my children. If while I am outside one of my children get hurt I have my first aid kit and my incident report on hand. If the situation is severe we have walkie talkies I can call for help or have some one call 911. As a teacher I feel that it is very important that we keep our classroom learning environment clean and safe from harm.
