COMPETENCY STATEMENT 1
COMPETENCY STATEMENT 1 To establish and maintain a safe healthy learning environment Providing a safe environment for my infants and toddlers is very important to me. I make sure they feel safe and secure when they see my smiling face. I make sure they feel that way throughout their day. To keep the children safe I inspect the centers in my classroom to make sure there are no broken toys or trash that they can put in their mouths. With young, mobile infants and toddlers you must stay on your feet at all time to make sure they stay safe and out of harm way. While the children are in my care I teach them the proper way to wash their hands by washing mines as well. I make sure to remind them to constantly wash their hands to prevent germs from spreading. They wash their hands before they eat, after using the restroom and after coming off the playground. The learning environment in my classroom is well equipped with child size chairs, tables and shelves. The young and mobile infant furniture is the same height, as for the toddler furniture is a little higher for their height. I make sure we have enough supplies for every child in my classroom.

CS1 a: Our daily menu is provided by USDA and it contains the daily requirements. Some items the children do not enjoy too much but it is recommended. Eating healthy is very important so I try to encourage them to at least try it.

CS1 b: I did not design this room however the room is well organized with centers in mind, Quiet and loud areas are separated. The centers have enough space for all the children. Tables and chairs are at children’s height levels.

CS1 c: My weekly plan implements daily schedule to accommodate the children needs, I embrace teachable moments when they happen. The activities I do with my children in geared toward the development stages. And the activities are planned so the children interact with

CS Ia- Upon reviewing the weekly menu I found that the menu was well balanced with all the components included. They offer a wide variety of proteins, vegetables, and fruits as well as a daily serving of dairy and starch. However, I found the menu to not be very child friendly. If I were in charge of the menu I would offer a more child friendly menu to the children with items that they are more likely to eat while still keeping the meals healthy. I would add entrees such as spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, sandwiches and ravioli’s. I would also try and offer more common vegetables to the children like corn, green beans, broccoli and carrots. Another change I would make is to switch up the starch a little and offer them brown rice and potatoes.…

To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I model safety practices and healthy routines in an environment that supports development and growth in these areas. My goal is to provide a clean healthy environment that meets each child’s physical needs. Making sure the classroom and playground are clean and safe at all times reduces the number of injuries of children while they are in my care. One of the ways I do this is by supervising children at all times by sight and sound even during nap times. Making sure all outlets are covered so children can’t access them. I make sure inside as well as outside there is nothing children can harm themselves on such as sharp objects or small items they can choke on. I ensure that all chemicals and cleaning supplies are put away out of the reach of children or stored in locked cabinets. To promote involvement and positive relationships with families and communities I believe that an open door policy is essential to have. I would do this by talking with the parents every day at drop off and pick up time. During the morning drop off time I would be able to find out how the previous afternoon went, if I wasn't there to see it myself, and how the child slept the previous night. I could also find out whether or not the child ate breakfast. During afternoon pick up time I would be able to tell the parent how the child's day went. I would also keep daily sheets for each child that would include bathroom breaks, what and how much the child ate throughout the day, as well as any concerns or questions I might have about the child. Another way I would keep the open door policy is by sending home a weekly newsletter informing the parents of what would be going on that week in the classroom. I would encourage parents to call the center or stop by to see how things are going for the child. I know that when parents are working they, often times, wonder about the child's day. By calling or stopping by they are able to peek in on the child and get updates are how the day is going. I would also encourage parents to attend any special event that the child is apart of, such as Christmas programs. The parents would, also, be more than welcome to have lunch with the child on his or her birthday if they are available to do so. I believe that, as a teacher, it is important to be the support system for the child while he or she is at school and while the parents are away at work. If the parents are working on something, such as using manners or potty training, I would be more than willing to help them by reinforcing that task while the child is at school. It is very important for both the child and the parents to have consistency in their daily routine. I believe that by…

To establish and maintain a healthy environment is to prevent the spread of germs and promote healthy eating habits. Germs can be easily spread among the age group of children. One of the ways I promote a healthy environment is hand washing. I wash my hands and wear gloves before and after handling food, helping with toileting, changing diapers and cleaning noses. I have the children wash their hands during similar times and ensure that they do it properly. Cleaning and sanitizing play areas daily and mouthed toys are immediately removed from the play area and sanitized at the end of the day.…

There are 7 tables in all, along with 2 individual seats. Individual seats are for work, and no one sits there on a regular basis. There is a circular table, located opposite the entrance, where the teachers work with students. There is also a teacher table located next to the SmartBoard, where the document camera and computer connections are located. This seated arrangement is very similar to the one found on the classroom design website. The floor plan found on this website suggests that the room be very organize and flow in a way that is orderly, but that works for the teachers. I love that my classroom is split up between where the students work independently, and where they learn new lessons on the…

Building a classroom that flows easily and allows the students to be productive in their learning environment is an essential part of being a teacher. The floor plan sets the mood, and the teacher sets the tone of the classroom. Without a cohesive plan that works well for both the students and the teacher, learning could become inhibited. As a teacher safety is of utmost importance, but I also wanted to make sure materials were accessible to promote a positive learning environment. I feel that I have designed a great floor plan that will be both functional for my students and allow me as a teacher to develop an inquiry based classroom with ease. I think my floor plan would work well with first through third graders, but when designing my classroom, I initially had second graders in mind. The narrative that follows will take you through my thoughts and feelings about the arrangement of each section of furniture and how it contributes to the flow and accessibility of the students to the teacher, as well as the students to materials.…

The classroom was divided up into 3 sections, the playing/story-time/nap-time room, the snack room/making activities room and the bathrooms for girls/boys/adults. The play room had several sections in it like the grocery/kitchen area, building blocks, books and coloring station, stuffed animals/veterinary area, calendars and seasons on the wall and their pictures with some of the things they have created and wanted to show off. There are stairs leading to the kindergarten room. The snack room has two big red tables with tiny blue chairs around it. Every chair is usually used and some kids have to sit at a different table in the corner for lack of space. Everything seems very close together and not very much room for people to move around the rooms. This room has a lot of things all over the walls, mostly things the kids have made and given to the teachers. They have a sign with their handprints…
