Classroom Design Analysis

2. Classroom design: In my opinion, the classroom is set up in a very open and organized layout. Many of the examples of classroom design, found on behavior advisor, or the various other learning modules provided, were implemented in my classroom already. When you walk into the room: the closet is to the right of the entrance, the tables and chairs are to the left of the entrance, and the rug and easel are directly in front of you when you enter. The SmartBoard is along the wall to the right of the entrance, beyond the closet. Directly next to the closet, and before the SmartBoard, is where the calendar and schedule of activities are located.

Subject area centers are located against all four walls of the classroom. The social studies center is along the same wall as the calendar and schedule, just past the SmartBoard. The Writing and Reading center is located along the wall that is part of the entrance. The Math center is located on the walls opposite to the entrance, as well as to the left of the entrance. There are 7 tables in all, along with 2 individual seats. Individual seats are for work, and no one sits there on a regular basis. There is a circular table, located opposite the entrance, where the teachers work with students. There is also a teacher table located next to the SmartBoard, where the document camera and computer connections are located. This seated arrangement is very similar to the one found on the classroom design website. The floor plan found on this website suggests that the room be very organize and flow in a way that is orderly, but that works for the teachers.
