COMPETENCY STATEMENT 1

FUNTIONAL AREA 1: SAFE To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment

Safety is an important part of childcare. To keep my children safe while in my care, I will make sure all electrical outlets are properly covered. I will also make sure all play areas are free from debris and any dangerous objects that could harm the children. I will make sure all toys will be checked routinely to ensure they are functioning properly and in working order. The children will not be permitted to run so that they do not cause injury to themselves or others. All cribs and playpens will be checked for any foreign objects that may injure the infants and/or toddlers. I will make sure that there are properly working smoke detectors and fire extinguishers throughout the center. I will also make sure that the entrance and exits are clear and there will be a plan in place in the event that a emergency arises.

I will teach the children a proper hand washing routine to help prevent the spread of germs and illnesses. I will make sue that all my children have immunization records and physical forms are up to date. I will make sure all equipment used by the children will be properly cleaned on a regular basis. Any linens used will be washed before the next use as well. Tables, and chairs will be cleaned. I will keep all cleaning supplies in a secure location and out of the reach of all children. I will also teach the children to cover their mouths when sneezing and coughing to prevent the spread of germs. I will provide healthy meals for the children. for the children. Any and all food that I serve will be will be peanut and shellfish

    One of my goals is to promote healthy habits. To establish and maintain a healthy environment is to prevent the spread of germs and promote healthy eating habits. Germs can be easily spread among the age group of children in my care, because they are in close contact with each other. One of the ways I promote a healthy environment is hand washing.
