Competitions for children at early stage or at adult stage
TOPIC:Some people believe that competition helps children to be better prepared for their future, while others say that competition can be harmful for children and should be limited to adults. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Competition is a part of life and has become very important in every field like sports, business to get success nowadays. In one or other way competition starts at the very early stage of human being. In my opinion competition is a must for everyone to be successful and happy in life.

To start with many competitions are held at school level among students. Teachers and parents nurture and encourage children to succeed in the contest and help them in the future. For example , sports competition in school creates an excellent opportunity to the contestants and makes a way to achieve their goals. Secondly, children participating in competitions like quiz, debate and music eliminates stage fear in childhood and improves social skills, interactive skills in future.

Besides the positive impact of competition on children sometimes there is a huge pressure on children to succeed in contest. Parents compare their children with others to get high grades in exams. Competition for grades will create unnecessary pressure on student and few children will be frustrated as they feel the responsibility was placed on them.

Although competitions has harmful effects on children I feel that competition is a part of our daily life which cannot be avoided where we can compete with ourselves and many others. Children achieve lot more to get success in their life and be in a good position in this competitive world.

In conclusion, children has to participate in many competitions which improves social interactions, communication skills and helps them a lot in future in terms of doing better at work

I think for reducing even eliminating this trend, counseling of parents is necessary so that they do not make their children to participate in such competitive games at such young age in fact indulge them in less tough and rule less games in order to make lives of their children better and happy. Parents should understand that their act of pressurizing children for such games make them to move more far away from the entire concept of sports. I believe that support of these games which only cause mental and physical stress to children should be end as soon as…

“Children Need to Play, Not Compete” by Jessica Statsky is an explanation as to why children sports need to be less competitive. The stress of winning seems to be getting worse and worse as time goes on. Children are losing the love for sports because the fun is slowly but surely being taken away. Statsky states that, “even when children are not injured, fear of being hurt detracts from their enjoyment of the sport.” There are also psychological issues, which shouldn’t be a problem children have to deal with. Sports should be somewhat of an outlet, an escape for children to enjoy themselves apart from their everyday life, not an added stress. As Statsky ads, “Winning and losing may be an inevitable part of adult life, but they should not be a part of childhood.” Childhood is a time for making memories, participating in things that make children happy, and enjoying their time. Instead of stressing about winning, practicing, losing, making the team, and getting hurt, children should purely be having fun playing the sports that they love.…

\For decades, participation trophies have been handed out like candy, regardless of how well a child has done in his competition. Lately, this has been a hotspot for debate. I believe that this practice shields children from the reality that they are not the best at everything, and do not always win. However, supporters of participation trophies argue that these trophies help build self esteem, and that they can be reminders of fond childhood memories.…

When everyone receives a trophy for just participating, it makes it harder for a child to understand why they do not always receive trophies or some type of reward in real life. Participation trophies also act as a disincentive towards some children who put in a lot of time and hard work to become good at a certain thing. They become discouraged when they see those who do not work as hard as them receiving a trophy for doing the bare minimum. Receiving participation trophies does not give a child any room to make mistakes and learn from them in life. The trophies teach them that even when they mess up and make mistakes they are still going to be rewarded for their mistakes. Participation trophies have the potential to kill the competitive nature of children. Sports are known to reveal character, but mainly by providing fierce competition with wins and losses. Without that competitive nature, young men and women may never be pushed into becoming successful, hardworking members of society. The excitement and feeling of accomplishing a major goal does not come from receiving a trophy, or someone else telling them that they are proud of them for doing their best. That moment of excitement and the accomplished feeling comes from beating the best of the best and from knowing that their hard work and dedication has paid…

“Children Need to Play, Not Compete,” article by Jessica Statsky convinces adults how competitive organized sports are harmful to children. First of all, Jessica Statsky explains organized sports are not always joyful. The competitiveness sucks out the fun for kids. She states, “Adults regard Little League Baseball and PeeWee Football as a basic part of childhood, the games are not always joyous ones.” Kids have to live up to parents and coaches exceptions. Competitiveness led kids into believing that they are worth for their abilities. They will, unfortunately, adopt this habits for future. However, I believe competitiveness can be beneficial to the kids. It can encourage children to excel. But this should not affect kids self-esteem.…

An issue that is hotly debated in Mrs. Crowell’s class is if kids should be able to play competitive sports or not. Firstly, kids should play competitive sports because they learn essential life lessons. For example, autor Kristin Chessman quotes Jim Taylor, Ph.D and sports psychology author. "Kids learn essential life skills, such as hard work, patience, persistence, and how to respond positively to setbacks and failure," (Chessman). This way, kids who never give up on their dream will try harder to become successful. In addition, children learn how to work with different people with different personalities and strengths (Chessman). This is important because…

The first verified existence of sports occurred in 776 BC when Greece held the first recorded Olympic Games (Jezek, 2013). Based on this date one can conclude logically that competiveness in sports has been in existence just as long. One can also conclude that children watching these Olympic Games were taught competiveness at an early age. Consider the classic children’s game musical chairs as one example of teaching children to compete at an early age. The structure of the game centers on music and chairs, one fewer chairs than players, or children. When the music stops, the children scramble to sit in the chairs, however; one child will be left with no chair to sit in. These children are learning skills and strategies, but they are also learning competiveness. One can argue that teaching children competition builds character and produces excellence; however, another can argue the latter. Wanda Hollaway, the memorable Texas cheerleader mom who went to trial for plotting to kill a rival mother so that Hollaway’s daughter could win a spot on the eight-grade cheerleading squad at her Texas middle school is an example of competition gone too far. One can see society has become carried away with the need to be number one; society tends to push children too hard…
