Compo: I Witnessed a Fight at the Food Court
Question
I witnessed a fight at the hawker centre
"Okay! See you! Bye!” I chirped as I hung up the phone. I was talking to my best friend Abigail about our Science project. We were going to meet up at Clement Food court to have lunch then off to the library to do research. As the food court was only a stone's throw away, I decided to leave 5 minutes before the meeting time. Little did I know what danger awaited me......?
I stride to the market leisurely, and at the corner of my eye, I noticed a shadow stalking me. My heart started pounding like there was no tomorrow. I started sprinting without realizing saw the back of a familiar person and ran as fast as my wimpy legs could carry me. Running is not my forte. “Abigail! Run for your life....Ah!" I fell face flat and my face was covered with splotches of dirt."Mmmm....HAHAHAHha....!”She took one look at my face and exploded with laughter. “Not helping! “I muttered, swearing under my breath. She handed me a napkin from McDonalds' and we head off, armed linked. It made me feel unstoppable. It made me temporarily escape the fear of the stalker. Lost in my train of thoughts, Abigail yelled into my ear "JOLENE! ARE YOU IN THERE?"I snapped out of my thoughts return to the fearful, reality. "There's someone stalking us!” I whispered. “HAHAHAHha....! Don’t be silly!” I made a face when I realized that she was right the man was gone.
Walking into the food court, we spotted an empty table. I charged towards the table as I was famished. I sat down, and Abigail went to get our food. The same man walked in to the food court, and was eyeing the place suspiciously and I immediately know I smell a fish (it's not because they sell fish here).I started pulling at my clothes and try to look for Abigail. My insides felt like someone was tugging at them, like a tug of war competition. “HI." I spun my head around and found a very well dressed boy standing in front of me. It was my neighbor, Little. He gives me an awkward smile, and I

I started by asking Mr. and Mrs. Smith what they remembered about the night. The mother hesitantly replied saying her son had told her that he heard weird footsteps before he was attacked. She then started to weep from the realization that the footsteps were from the attacker. As her husband tried to comfort his grieving wife, I asked him what was taken from the house. He thought for a moment and then replied, “Nothing, not a God damn thing.”…

Later, just a couple of minutes before Prep, I sat by the phone rooms, nauseous about how I would break the world-shattering news to Sophie. Ah, my beloved Sophie, we dated last year until she saw Matt Shauman. But I would have won her back with these tickets. Maybe I can say that I was suspended and Max will get them for her, so as not to break her fragile heart. So, plucking up my last piece of courage, I entered a phone cubicle and dialled her boarding house’s number. Brrrr, Brrrr, with numb fingers, they shook like an earthquake, so wedging the phone between my shoulder and ear, my breathing…

I pulled my beanie securely on my head as I crouched down on a sturdy tree branch. My hunting knife reflected the dim light of the moon. It glinted letting my prey know I was there. "Yeah, I love a good chase!" I jumped from branch to branch as I chase my target. His brown hair was starting to gray but he ran pretty good for someone in their late forties. At least that's what boss lady said. I jumped down quietly as the man began to get tired. He began huffing as his pace slowed. I knocked into his back sending him into a tree. His chest heavily moved with his ragged breaths. I slowly approached him as I pulled my hunting knife back out. "Let play," I said in a deadpan tone. My eyes lost their light as I stared down at him.…

I was closing in behind her as she reached the crosswalk. She started to cross, of course I followed. After we crossed the street, she walked for awhile, then she sat down on a communal bench. “May I sit here?” I asked. “Of course,” she replied. A minute or two later, she asked “You look familiar, do I know you?” I stated who I was. Everything clicked after that. We started talking about the old days when nothing really matters. I lost track of time, we sat there for what seemed like minutes. Only to find out it had been a couple hours. We exchanged phone numbers, I told her to keep in touch. We went our separate ways, I called a cab and went back to my…

My first victim was a woman—white, well dressed, probably in her late twenties. I came upon her late one evening on a deserted street in Hyde Park, a relatively affluent neighborhood in an otherwise mean, impoverished section of Chicago. As I swung onto the avenue behind her, there seemed to be a discreet, uninflammatory distance between us. Not so.…

Will you be attending Mr. Maloney’s funeral this week?” Sam replied. “Yes I will.” She answered. “Goodbye now Mrs. Maloney.” Sam said. “Goodbye!” She replied.…

It was around midnight on Friday when I was walking down the street. Tired and concern about the time I was walking fast to the bus stop in one of the most impoverished areas of the town. Just when the darkest street approached I saw a man standing by the side as if he was waiting for me to come. My heart started to beat faster and faster as I was walking towards him and my hands were suddenly sweating, I tried to focus myself on the light at the end of the street and walk by him discreetly but my fear was so obvious that I couldn’t help but run and hold my purse tight to my chest. The words mugging, raped and even death were crossing in my mind as replacing the lack of air in my lungs. While I was running to be “safe”, I decided to make sure that he “the mugger” was not following me but he was! That made the situation even worse. When I finally got to the bus stop I saw him menacingly close, I couldn’t breathe nor take one more step then I thought to myself, this is it! I’m done, he will kill me. But to my surprise he was just running to see if I was fine and asked if someone was following me to hurt me.…

As I was walking down the dark, concealed hallway I began to hear footsteps. As the footsteps grew closer, I began to grow worrisome. “Hello?” I softly spoke. “Hello,” I spoke again just a little louder. Nothing. I stood there for what felt like minutes pondering. Then suddenly, a soft snicker came from behind me. “Fortunato!” I yelled as I looked at him standing there with a sly smirk on his dirty face. “Montresor,” he replied “I see you are looking for me?” he remarked. “Oh, yes, yes I am, you must have gotten lost, let us go get our wine and forget all this,” I said thinking of a way to explain,”it was only a harmless joke!” I said as I slightly laughed. “Ha! Ha,” he erupted in laughter, “I think not!” he said as he launched towards me. In that moment as I tried to fight back, I knew I had lost. As everything was about to go black, I heard a soft voice in the distance “tu as perdu.” Then it went…
