The first time I gazed upon a computer- at a friend’s house, young and curious, and that exact moment, my adventure with technology started. I ran home and turned on my family’s ancient, bulky, computer and with my small clumsy hands, unfamiliar with the mechanics of this device. Although I had no clue how to use this foreign object, the bright flashy lights captivated me; my eyes were locked on this screen that I so desperately wanted to understand. My parents soon realized that our family needed access to the internet like everyone else, we were lagging behind. Having internet was a double edged sword- I could explore the free web to my heart’s content, but I didn’t realize that my PC was far too old to hold up any longer. Every day the world becomes more dependent on technology. Businesses are more reliant on technology than ever before. The need for graduating students to know more about technological literacy is becoming more important. Even more important is the understanding of what technological literacy is by not only students but also by educators. Surprisingly there is much confusion in today’s society about what technological literacy actually is (Dugger, 2001). If you ask the average person what technology literacy is they will tell you it is that you know how to use a computer or that it is being able to use a word document. He further states that someone who is technologically literate understands what it is and how it affects our society and how it consistently changes. Technology is a part of everything we do today. The technology we have and use today will not be the same that we have and use in ten or twenty years. With technology changing daily and no sooner do they come out with…

Another factor contributing to the difficulty in defining technological literacy involves the improperly weighting of computer influence on the term 's definition. In a speech given by former President, Bill Clinton, this misunderstanding is propagated further. He states, "Today, technological literacy – computer skills and the ability to use computers and other technology to improve learning, productivity and performance – is a new basic that our students must master. " (Clinton, n.d.)…
