However they don’t realize that the injuries sustained when playing football can later lead to long term issues. Also ⅓ of the retired NFL players having to develop permanent brain impairments is a lot of people.Just think of all the football players in the NFL you knew, almost 33% of them needed to get impairments simply so tehri brain can actually work fine and they can live. Football teams need to be more concerned about their players suffering concussions. Most people do not even know what a concussion really is. A concussion is a bruise to the brain due to a sudden blow to the head (“Concussions in Sports”). This is one of the most common injuries in football, however, this is one of the more serious injuries. Football is a gruesome sport which is why football teams need to be on alert in case a concussion hits. Sports teams need to be more concerned about concussions because a concussion will affect a player short and long term, it also can lead to brain disease, and after a player sustains their first concussion, they are more likely to get suffer another.…

Concussions in football are not surprising anymore and we don’t think about the effects it will have on us later in our life. Concussions are a brain injury that alters the way our brain functions and if enough damage occurs it can produce long term effects. Concussions are changing the game of football more and more every year. Players are experiencing long term effects from concussions from the NFL and now the NFL is taking some heat from how they handled the injuries at the time. The game is trying to help players, and it’s important to understand what they are and the dangers of them, Effects of them such as CTE, and how rules are being put in place to protect players.…
There have been several studies conducted on the dangers of concussion in youth football. They all seem to mention the same issue. The effects that these concussions have on the thinking, behavior and attitudes of the youth. Many of them begin to act out with negative or aggressive behavior, they underperform in school, and many often acquire anger issues. These results are alarming. I believe that for this to change there must be awareness of these negative effects and focus on the children and protecting them. Concussions are not the only dangers in youth football, there are also reports of children paralyzed and other severe injuries that can stick with them for many years and often sometimes the rest of their…
As stated in a medical journal developed by a Rhode Island medical journal, these head injuries are now being looked at closer. The statistics from the article say that they’re over 100,000 reported concussion cases in student athletes ranging from high school to college football, along with a lengthy paragraph stating what the outcomes happen due to the effects of a concussion. Stating that frontal lobe development might slow down or stop entirely making simple problem solving skills and emotional control a lot harder on for the individual in life, due to this…
Football is a contact sport, and injuries are to be expected, but is it really worth the risk for possible permanent damage to the most important organ there is? Concussions are a serious injury, and need to be treated that way, as the organ effected is in essence the very life in a person. If someone doesn’t have a properly functioning brain, then more than likely that person is handicapped in some way. That handicap can be some such a slight tremor, or even total loss of motor…

Although, in sports like football, repeated head to head contact can lead to long term brain damage. Many former football players have suffered from long term head injuries, this lead to things such as, “ long-term health consequences of concussion, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer's disease, and other forms of dementia, Parkinson's disease, or severe cognitive impairment.” according to Weil(2016). When suffering from a concussion, you must deal with many symptoms such as, brief loss of consciousness after the injury, memory problems, drowsiness or feeling sluggish, confusion, dizziness, double vision or blurred vision, nausea, headache,or vomiting, sensitivity to light or noise, balance problems, and slowed reaction to…
What do you think when you hear the word “concussion”? I’m sure you think, like most people do, about a football player getting a head injury in the game. That’s what I used to think about concussions, until I got one, and trust me it was not from a football game. I just finished up my first semester as a freshman at Kutztown University and I was home for winter break. I was in the car with my best friend pulling up to an intersection at a red light. It was three days after Christmas, so it was already dark outside around 5:30 P.M. We waited for the light to change green, I looked both ways like they taught in the Driver’s Manual before I proceeded to cross the intersection. And there it was, a car speeding through a red light and hitting…
Hey everyone! I hope you all have been enjoying your rotations so far. It sounds like some of us have been a lot busier than others this week. I’ve really been enjoying my rotation thus far, my preceptor and his assistant are hilarious, and so it has made this transition a lot easier for me. My mornings begin at 7 with treatments, and then I usually get a break and come back around 1 for afternoon treatments and to cover football practice. On average we see around 40-50 athletes per day ranging from minor overuse injuries to traumatic acute injuries. Surprisingly there have been a lot of concussed athletes this week so I’m becoming quite familiar with the concussion protocol and IMPACT testing. I probably saw one of the worst cases throughout my years of being an ATS on Friday night during the football game.…
A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury. A concussion can occur when a hit to the head or body causes the brain to quickly back and forth. (“What is a Concussion?”) When a person gets a repeated amount of concussions they can develop CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy). CTE is a disorder that causes the brain to gradually deteriorate and lose mass. In 2002, doctors Bennet I. Omalu, M.D. and Julian Bailes, M.D. were able to diagnose the first professional football player with CTE. Since then, there has been an more awareness about concussions. New information about concussion is making people rethink about playing football and it has also lead to the development of technology to prevent concussions.…
