Condom Dispensers Research Paper
Recently, there has been a controversy on the campus regarding whether or not the school should install condom dispensers. Some people are elated at the idea of condom dispensers being installed within the school, but other people don’t feel the same way. Condom dispensers should not be placed within the school. It is the belief that installing the dispensers, it could cost the school in purchase, upkeep, and loss of donorship. Another view is that installing the dispensers violates the idea of what education is, and that the ramifications of installing condom dispensers could be great. Issues such as these are never black and white. One must take into account the whole picture, not just a miniscule piece of it. “The function of education, therefore, is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically.” (King web) This is a direct quote taken from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech entitled The Purpose of Education. Camden County College is a commuter school that should not have to put its energy on meeting the sexual needs of the young adults that attend the school. Camden County College is an academic institution that should gear its focus to the education the students are receiving. Condom dispensers …show more content…
The gifts are given, by donors, for scholarship funding, new school supplies, and used for maintenance and paying the staff. (Daly Web) Each donor comes from a different background and and religion status. By putting in condom dispensers, some of the donors might take offence and stop donating. One reason could be if the students did not feel safe in bathrooms (from other people having sex). Another reason could be a violation of public indecency. Donors may also take religious offence by the condom dispensers and pull their gifts. Without the gifts, finances would drop. There could be less money for scholarships, staff, and

Dr. Martin Luther King wrote “The Purpose of Education” and one of his most important statement was that the true goal of education is “intelligence plus character”. I completely agree with this statement because I believe that talent without ambition or goals to follow thru is useless talent. A lot of people during Dr. King’s time were very-well educated but did not have the best intentions at heart. For example, Eugene Talmadge;…

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.” Martin Luther King, Jr. During the Great Depression, not everyone was given a decent education, and it most certainly was not the number one priority. You were pretty much fine if you were in a rich white family, but the further down the caste system you were, you harder it was. In Maycomb, the Finches, the Cunninghams, and the Ewells all have a different view of their education, inside and outside of the schoolhouse.…

Cornel West, summarizes his views on what the purpose of a college education is, at speech given at Bergen Community College. Most people feel college is just about getting a good job or moving up in their current job. Cornel West sees college on a deeper level. He believes that the main purpose of a college education is to unsettle people and force them into mustering up the courage to think critically and for their selves. He also feels that college should teach us to become less materialistic and self centered, looking for the greater good for the community over the good for oneself. Letting go of dogma and predispositions, so you can exam yourself is the most important part of education according to Cornel West. Although I do not agree with every one of West’s ideas on education, I do agree with the majority of them.…

Education should be used with a purpose and that purpose is to learn, to educate, and to help students become successfully academically. However, that is not always the case. Education at times is used for all the wrong reasons. “Repeatedly, Americans have followed a common pattern in devising educational prescriptions for specific social or economic ills. Once they had discovered a problem, they labeled it and taught a course on the subject: alcohol or drug instruction to fight addictions; sex education to combat syphilis or AIDS; home economics to lower the divorce rate; driver education to eliminate carnage on the highway; and vocational training or…

One point Martin Luther King makes is that education should make a man more efficient. I agree with this because a community can not become better if its people is not efficient. For example: if i don’t study well for a test, I might become a bad member of the community in the later future.…

A school board has come under attack by the religious organization, Christians Against Sex, CAS, for its approach to dealing with the high rate of pregnancies in the district. In their board meeting of February 15th 2010 it was noted that 20 students had become pregnant and had to leave school to have babies. This included students in grades 9 through 12. Board member Marcia Helmsley lamented the loss of family values by the introduction of Planned Parenthood's advocacy of birth control and abortion services into the school district. "We have lost our moral bearings as a nation when we see our children being encouraged to use birth control by our own schools."…

All humans are subject to express their own personal opinions on certain topics, whether it be relevant to the world or just specifically in their community; however, it is the content of what people share and the words in which they use that makes the difference between meaningful topics and irrelevant ones. In other words, one has to draw the line from purposeful discussions which form deeper knowledge in a person’s mind about the point of controversy and unnecessary videos that do not have a specific purpose. For example, discussing if the environment schools create for growing students affects their creativity in a negative fashion helps open peoples’ perspectives, guiding them to think critically about a school’s teachings; this is oppose…

Martin Luther King, Jr., an American minister, activist, and leader in the Civil Rights Movement, once said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.” King is pointing out that education is meant to challenge people in order to shape their minds and thoughts. The importance of education has been written about countless times. Many intelligent writers have written articles on higher education, such as Horace Mann’s “From Report of the Massachusetts Board of Education, 1848,” Jean Anyon’s “From Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work,” and John Taylor Gatto’s “Against School.” In their writings they point out the flaws in the…

In the first point Alford briefly explains that the abstinence programs mandated by the federal government deny the youth from learning significant information about condoms and contraception that can prevent unwanted pregnancies and STDs. Alford points out that diseases such as HPV are so common that “three-quarters of all sexually active people in the world have been infected” (Bishop, et al., 2008). A significant long-term study conducted by the Aids Research Institute at the University of California concluded that “if the goal of school-based sex education is to increase positive health outcomes for youth,” comprehensive sex education programs are far more effective.…

Condom is a type of birth control (contraceptive) that is worn during intercourse to prevent pregnancy and the spread of some sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), such as Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and HIV. The male condom is a barrier contraceptive made of latex or polyurethane. It’s also made out of animal skin in which it does not protect against the spread of infections, Latex rubber. The condom must be fitted over the erect penis. The male condom is a thin cover that fits over a man 's erect penis. Condoms are available without a prescription and are inexpensive. You can buy them at most drugstores, in vending machines in some restrooms, by mail order, and at certain health care clinics. A condom blocks sperm from coming in contact with the inside of the vagina, where it could reach an egg. If a condom is used regularly and correctly, it prevents pregnancy of 97% out of the time, and prevents the spread of most STDs. The actual effectiveness among users, however, is only 80 - 90%. This is due to break in condom due to manufacturing problem, failure to use a condom during each act of intercourse, occasional tear of a condom during intercourse, Semen spilling from a condom during withdrawal, and waiting too long to put a condom on the penis before its comes into contact with vagina . Another name for condoms is rubbers, safes, or jimmies. This topic is very important to study because people are having sex without use any type of protections and are haven unwanted pregnancy especially teen girls. People also are dying from HIV and STD’s. Evidence shows if used consistently and correctly, the male latex condom is an effective contraceptive that no systemic side-effects and is an effective means of protection against STDs, including the human immune deficiency virus (HIV) that causes AIDS.…
