During this time, the so-called baby boom was in full effect. Due to this fact, the housing market soared and suburbia was well on its way. Communities were developed by companies such as The Irvine Company and American Nevada Corporation. Just like in the series “Weeds”, the suburbs are the product of this demand. The developers masterminded cookie cutter homes that looked alike in every aspect and catered to single family dwellers. These types of residences were “well-manicured developments…”(Guterson 158) that David Guterson talks about in his paper, "No Place Like Home.”…

On a fine day in February, I woke up to a text message from my aunt. In this message, she explained she wanted me to branch out of my comfort zone in Austin and research my other options elsewhere. In other words, she was giving me a push to look for other places to attend school or work in. Later that week, my uncle, aunt, mom, and I had a family meeting about what my other possible educational and vocational options were. My mom suggested looking for apartments in South Austin where my sister, mom, and I could live. They could work in San Antonio, even though it was far, and I could go to Texas State University (TXST) or University of Texas at Austin (UT.) If I wanted to find an affordable…
