ever fought in the 1800’s. Another reason this flag should be kept in schools is that it is a huge part of “Our History”.
The first Battle of Manassas also known as The Battle of Bull Run was just months after the start of the war at Fort Sumter the Northern public demanded for a march against the confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia, which they expected to end the rebellion. It was a brutal battle in which many people brought picnic baskets and blankets to watch the battle. Those many men and women ended up having to run away to save their lives because the battle was so brutal and in that process many of them ended up losing their life. In the end the south won the battle and raised that flag high to prove their victory. The battle of Gettysburg began July 1st 1863; the confederates were led by General Robert E. Lee. In this battle there were a total of 23,231 souls fighting for the south, there were 4,708 killed, 12.693 wounded and 5,830 captured by the Union or were missing. 4,708 men lost their lives and many more risked their lives. Although the South lost that battle they still kept this flag flying to show that they had many men that risked their lives. Out of all the battles fought and won with the south, there were 490,309 who lost their life! Why take that symbol of dedication and freedom
away? Finally, we were raised on the history of this flag. This flag was the reason we have the star spangled banner. Om September 13th 1814, Francis Scott Key was written after he witnessed the Battle of Fort McHenry being bombarded in the War Of 1812. As quoted from Key in the “And the Rockets red glare gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. The Flag Was Still There!! Meaning that even after the lives lost, lives risked and those missing, that flag still flew loud and proud! Still want to take that away? Some say that this flag is a symbol of “Racism”, how? I mean not once was there a black person fighting in these battles. These battles were fought so that blacks could be FREE! The Confederate men fought so that slavery would be abolished. When you say that this flag is racism all you are doing is disrespecting those 20,000 plus men who fought to defend your states. The idea that there were black confederates fighting for their own free will is just another lie Lost Causers tell themselves. In Conclusion this flag should not be ban because it is the biggest statement of our freedom, it is the reason we have the rights we do. This flag gave us the right to go to school, the right to practice religion and the right to live our lives the way we want to. So think if you’re taking this flag away you are taking your own rights away. Still want to ban this flag?
