misrepresentation. For example, many kids at my high school fly the confederate flag on their vehicles. Most of these kids don’t see anything wrong with the flag, but I do. The confederacy was founded on the basis of continuing to practice slavery just to save money. As an African American, I take offense to you supporting that kind of standpoint. The confederacy was willing to dehumanize a whole race just to save money. If this is what the Georgia state flag is trying to emulate then we have to do something about it. The meaning of the Georgia state flag is not derived from just the color or the state emblem as we’re brainwashed to believe, but the structure also.
Many people are not taught to recognize the confederate battle flag in ambiguous ways such as structure. Instead, we are taught to recognized the stars and bars. The flag that was last decided by the confederacy was the same structure as the flag now. People may ask “why is this a problem if we’ve been doing this before?” well, the problem is the 3rd state flag didn’t offend anyone or tarnish our wonderful state, but we Georgians went and changed the flag back to what we believe is displaying pride for our history. This flag is actually displaying again ignorance and
racism. These flags can be easily changed but it starts with voters. You need to put in the GA curriculum and teach more about the flags origin instead of keeping these integral facts in the dark. A step in the right direction not only requires your action but us as civilians need to take action as well. We need to learn to think for and educate ourselves so we have a clearer understanding of what we are representing and vice versa. It isn’t a hard road to achieve getting a new flag, but it isn’t a walk in the park.
