Confirmation Sacrament
Confirmation

Parent Information Booklet

Welcome! As you may already know, your child will be preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation in the upcoming months. We hope that you as parents will be able to support your child through their spiritual journey. The preparation for Confirmation is a time of spiritual growth, learning, sharing, fellowship and serving. Your child will learn what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, in preparation to receive this special sacrament.

The sacrament of Confirmation invites your child to confirm their Catholic faith given at baptism and to become an adult member of our Catholic church. Your child is invited to renew the promises they made at baptism. Confirmation is centred on the Holy Spirit, which confirmed the apostles on Pentecost and gave them courage to practice their faith. The Holy Spirit is received by your child through the sacrament of Confirmation and they will be presented with the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Expectations for Confirmation preparation

Attend weekly Mass

In preparation to receive the sacrament of Confirmation it is important that you are encouraging your child to attend Mass on a weekly basis, outside of school hours.

Take part in Confirmation classes during RE

Your child will be preparing for the sacrament during their RE lessons at school, of which will contribute to their preparation hours. It is important that your child’s attendance is good and we ask that any medical appointments are arranged outside of these hours. Your child will be given homework as part of their preparation; we encourage parents to take an active role in this.

Confirmation name

Your child will be asked to choose a saint’s name and write a biography about that Saint. Your child’s Confirmation name should be that of a saint they admire or the saint’s name of someone they know and look up to, as a Christian role-model. It is important for you to encourage your child to research their

For the past year, I have been preparing for this sacrament in many ways. I have attended confirmation classes regularly and have had a few meeting with Mrs. Kunkel. I have also received other Sacraments, such as Eucharist and Reconciliation that I feel has also helped me prepare. I want to be confirmed because I feel that I have prepared myself through this year and that I am ready. I have had several service experiences throughout the past year. One service project I did that really stood out to me was when we went to the nursing homes to pass out Christmas cards, because everyone deserves to feel happy and appreciated on holidays. I have learned that confirmation is not the end of my faith life, but just the beginning.…

Most Confirmations are done through the catholic schools now so a young adult will be confirmed with their class mates, while a Bar Mitzvah or Bah Mitzvah is celebrated normally only one person at a time, but still takes place in front of the synagogue ‘s congregation. Confirmations are performed during a special confirmation mass where the person being confirmed must have someone known as a sponsor to be there for them. Their sponsor can be any Catholic person who the young person being confirmed looks up to as a Catholic leader in their life. During the ceremony each person being confirmed is called up to take vows about staying…

When a baby is baptised it wears white. Long ago, new Christians were given a white garment to wear as a sign of their new life. White stands for purity and innocence and the rejection of sin (doing wrong things). The priest welcomes the child and the parents at the door of the church. In each Catholic Church is a great paschal candle, which stands for the resurrection of Jesus. Jesus said, "I am the light of the world", so the candle is a symbol of this. With light we see things clearly. Jesus was talking about showing the difference between right and wrong, good and evil. In the baptism, a candle is given to one of the parents or God parents who lights it from the great paschal candle. The candle is a sign of how they hope the child will always try to live the way the Jesus would want. At the door, the priest asks the parents and God-parents if they are willing to bring up the child as a Christian. When they say 'Yes' the priest welcomes and names the child and says:…

As I do not practice any religion, I thought that for the religious experience project, I would write about my observations as my sister rekindles her faith and practice in Roman Catholicism. My sister and I were both raised Catholic by our parents and both attended Sunday school where our grandmother was our teacher. However, after our parents divorced about 17 years ago, we both strayed away from our faith. I went on to keep an open mind and learn of other religions but never found my fit. My sister has recently started to return to Catholicism, expressing her desire to have her child baptized someday. For this paper, I asked if I could accompany her to mass for the first time in 17 years at our childhood church, St. Cecilia Catholic Church…

Our values as a church are that we are bold, inclusive, and relevant with our mission statement being “To create Jesus loving, inclusive communities that ignite the city.” This child’s family has been attending our church for the past two years, so this is a message he has heard over and over every single Sunday at the beginning of church. Over the summer in Kids Church we also had the children work through the mission statement word by word to see what that meant, and how we live it all out in church. In addition, his parents are very welcoming and justice oriented. They want to make our society a place where no one is disenfranchised and want to raise their children with this…
