Welcome! As you may already know, your child will be preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation in the upcoming months. We hope that you as parents will be able to support your child through their spiritual journey. The preparation for Confirmation is a time of spiritual growth, learning, sharing, fellowship and serving. Your child will learn what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, in preparation to receive this special sacrament.
The sacrament of Confirmation invites your child to confirm their Catholic faith given at baptism and to become an adult member of our Catholic church. Your child is invited to renew the promises they made at baptism. Confirmation is centred on the Holy Spirit, which confirmed the apostles on Pentecost and gave them courage to practice their faith. The Holy Spirit is received by your child through the sacrament of Confirmation and they will be presented with the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Expectations for Confirmation preparation
Attend weekly Mass
In preparation to receive the sacrament of Confirmation it is important that you are encouraging your child to attend Mass on a weekly basis, outside of school hours.
Take part in Confirmation classes during RE
Your child will be preparing for the sacrament during their RE lessons at school, of which will contribute to their preparation hours. It is important that your child’s attendance is good and we ask that any medical appointments are arranged outside of these hours. Your child will be given homework as part of their preparation; we encourage parents to take an active role in this.
Confirmation name
Your child will be asked to choose a saint’s name and write a biography about that Saint. Your child’s Confirmation name should be that of a saint they admire or the saint’s name of someone they know and look up to, as a Christian role-model.
