Dear Bishop Medley, Hello, my name is Brooklyn Kilgus and as a member of holy spirit catholic church, I have been preparing to receive the sacrament of confirmation. I am 14 years old and a freshman at bowling green high school. I am the youngest out of 3 children. In my free time I enjoy participating in cheerleading and BGSGA(Bowling Green student government association). For the past year, I have been preparing for this sacrament in many ways. I have attended confirmation classes regularly and have had a few meeting with Mrs. Kunkel. I have also received other Sacraments, such as Eucharist and Reconciliation that I feel has also helped me prepare. I want to be confirmed because I feel that I have prepared myself through this year and that I am ready. I have had several service experiences throughout the past year. One service project I did that really stood out to me was when we went to the nursing homes to pass out Christmas cards, because everyone deserves to feel happy and appreciated on holidays. I have learned that confirmation is not the end of my faith life, but just the beginning.
For my confirmation sponsor I have chosen my grandmother Betty Lagrange. I chose my grandma because I feel that she is the reason I am a catholic. She has passed down the catholic faith and traditions into our family for years. As part of my confirmation, I will take a saints name. This saint becomes the heavenly patron that I will set as my role model. My sponsor has been my "role model" throughout this process, but as I begin my Catholic life St. Elizabeth Ann will be my guide. I chose Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton because for the past 3 years I have been part of her team for my old school St. Joseph. At St. Joseph we have this saint system. When you first enter 6th grade you are put into one of the first 5 American saints teams, and I was chosen into Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton’s, but not only that she is a great catholic that someday I hope to become.
