Sacrament and Elizabeth Ann Seton
August 31, 2013
Dear Bishop Medley, Hello, my name is Brooklyn Kilgus and as a member of holy spirit catholic church, I have been preparing to receive the sacrament of confirmation. I am 14 years old and a freshman at bowling green high school. I am the youngest out of 3 children. In my free time I enjoy participating in cheerleading and BGSGA(Bowling Green student government association). For the past year, I have been preparing for this sacrament in many ways. I have attended confirmation classes regularly and have had a few meeting with Mrs. Kunkel. I have also received other Sacraments, such as Eucharist and Reconciliation that I feel has also helped me prepare. I want to be confirmed because I feel that I have prepared myself through this year and that I am ready. I have had several service experiences throughout the past year. One service project I did that really stood out to me was when we went to the nursing homes to pass out Christmas cards, because everyone deserves to feel happy and appreciated on holidays. I have learned that confirmation is not the end of my faith life, but just the beginning.
For my confirmation sponsor I have chosen my grandmother Betty Lagrange. I chose my grandma because I feel that she is the reason I am a catholic. She has passed down the catholic faith and traditions into our family for years. As part of my confirmation, I will take a saints name. This saint becomes the heavenly patron that I will set as my role model. My sponsor has been my "role model" throughout this process, but as I begin my Catholic life St. Elizabeth Ann will be my guide. I chose Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton because for the past 3 years I have been part of her team for my old school St. Joseph. At St. Joseph we have this saint system. When you first enter 6th grade you are put into one of the first 5 American saints teams, and I was chosen into Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton’s, but not only that she is a great catholic that someday I hope to become.

Saint Christopher's birth place and birth date is still unknown but most people believe he was born in Canaan and his feast day is the 25th of July. Saint Christopher died in Asia Minor c.251. Saint Christopher is a saint because he was a ferryman carrying people across the river and one day a small boy came and he asked saint Christopher to please carry him across the river and when he was carrying the boy saint Christopher noticed that the boy was so heavy but didn't know the boy was our savior Jesus Christ and yet he still willed himself to do it and that's how he became a saint. The struggle that the saint had was trying to carry Jesus across the river because he weighed so much and he couldn't do it but he willed himself to do it and he accomplished his struggle. I choose this saint because if he has the will power to do what he did I am hoping that he can give me the will power to complete any task or struggle that I face in my life and with his guidance I can complete anything. I can relate to this saint because what he did was very brave of him and that if I was faced with caring our savior Jesus Christ across the river I would and also me and this saint share the same name. Some of the qualities this saint has that I would like to have is his strength and will power because with those two qualities anything is possible and nothing can stop you from completing…

“Whoever from deep within her noble and zealous heart wishes to take up the cross let her first take up the arms necessary for such battles”. St. Catherine of Bologna once said. Her feast day is on March 9th. Catherine is the patroness of artists (Catholic Online, 1). I chose St. Catherine of Bologna because I have talent and a gift of drawing well. After I chose my saint, I realized that my first name of my godmother, Kasia, is Katherine. My godfather Arthur's nickname is Art, both godparents are siblings and they are twins! Catherine is also the name of my great-grandmother. I also chose this saint because I love art and how St. Catherine was buried but then later was mummified.…

When I was four years old, I started at St. John Brebeuf School, a Catholic school, which is apart of St. John Brebeuf Parish. Growing up throughout the years there, I learned many new things such as: meeting loyal friends, finding a mentor, seeing all the hustle and bustle of the community, and of course the many activities and committees in which you are able to become more involved. Seventh grade is when I really became involved within my parish. I began by joining the Lifeteen choir, in which we sing at mass, playing hand bells at mass, the Youth Ministry program in which you talk about church itself and volunteer within the community, Altar Serving which consists of helping the Priest and deacon at mass, and the GLADD program, which helps mentally challenged children learn about God. As the years went on, I found more activities and committees to become involved in, and now in addition to what I was apart of since seventh grade, I am now a Lector at mass, in which I read either the first or second reading, schedule the times in which altar servers serve, and also organize parties, To Teach Who Christ Is committee, where we teach the church about Christ, and where we raise money to fund for repairs to the parish, Picnic Planner, and 60th Anniversary…

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” This beatitude embodies my saint because Saint Teresa at one point in her life wanted to become a martyr, meaning she refused to fear death when it came to her faith. “Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God” I believe my saint was pure in heart because it was also noticed from another’s perspective that she was friendly and saw the good in others.…

I don’t think anyone has a better family friend than my “Grantie.”/Linda. My family came up the name Grantie because she was like a grandmother and aunt figure all in one and we thought it would be the perfect name. She is such a special person to me and my family. When my mom had me and she was going back to work she needed someone to watch me. My mom was talking about it when she was with some friends and almost immediately grantie said “I WILL” and that was it since I was 2 months old, she has been a part of my life, and made a big impact. She has such a spunky spirit. She was a very die heart Vikings fan. She also is very into the holiday Halloween, she decorated her whole entire house with big decorations and in her front yard, she puts up humongous blow up character and Halloween themed decorations. She sticks with things she believed in. So when I found out she had this awful disease I was…
