These authors both agree that integrating is the greatest response to overcome conflict out of the five responses. The first thing to do when dealing with conflict is acknowledging the situation and understanding that there is something wrong. They suggest those involved have an open mind, willingness to listen, and a friendly attitude when confronting one another. These components can generate solutions to the issue and can lead to long term outcomes. I agree with the authors that working together to overcome conflict will lead to the best solution. Resorting to avoidance of the problem is the easiest choice for someone with a reserved and shy personality like myself, but consequently this will only lead to further complications. I believe compromising is a necessary aspect within the five responses because you are acknowledging the others opinions, respecting them, and also defending your own beliefs and wishes at the same time. Creating assumptions, judgements or avoiding the situation or individual will only lead to further complications and is not how conflict should be managed by professionals. It is important to maintain a positive work environment, especially in nursing where team work and support systems are crucial. Consulting a team leader or manager when dealing with conflict is a smart action to ensure both parties are protected and help can be involved if needed. I will utilize the strategies discussed within this paper when conflict arises so I can maintain my relationships and positive work environment as I continue my nursing
