This brings us to the layman definition of conformity, a type of social influence in-volving a change in belief or behavior in order to fit in with a group. Before we delve further into the issue of conformity which is making our society a dystopian one, we must first make ourselves aware of the main reasons as to why a man conforms. First and foremost, the fear of rejection and disapproval, the need to avoid any ridicule or punishment are the primary reasons for always conforming at any cost. However, oth-er people’s behavior leads us towards a set of expectations, alternatives are seen as very few. Is it only, the material things that we store during the course our lives, like money, jewellery, real estate, land and vari-ous other assets, or does prosperity have a far greater meaning? Prosperity cannot be measured in finite or material terms only. A mother thinks of her children as her wealth, even a starving farmer thinks of his land as his wealth. In India, a family that can meet its basic needs, even if it does not have education or money considers itself prosperous. So, wealth and prosperity is a subjective matter, of which each person has his own conception. The importance of prosperity is the value it provides in terms of giving happiness and therefore it can be only measured in individual terms. So when we talk about why conformity can be a hindrance to prosperity, we must remember that it is not only financial prosperity but also the emotional prosperity that is to be considered and conformism itself is not bad or hampers prosperity.
