Conscientious Objectors Analysis
This week, we had the honor to participate in a speech made by Dr. Maja Zehfuss. Dr. Zehfuss came to give us a lecture on the current problem that is happening between American soldiers and about whether some of the soldiers’ personal willingness is against the requirement of going to Iraq.
The conscientious objectors’ personal opinion can be controversy. First, one of the narratives of the conscientious objection is that these American soldiers are against of serving their term associated with Iraq War. According to the lecture, majority of their reason on why not going to Iraq is because of the brutality the soldiers brought. America’s troops tend to break into Iraq citizen’s place and search for any possibility signs of terrorism in these

The other point of view on these conscientious objectors is that, from their action of refusing to go to Iraq has been violating the contract that singed when they joined the armed force. Furthermore, from comparing to the pervious society, the current political circumstances have been changing. I believe that the definition of conscientious objector can be re-defined. With the rising awareness of human rights, soldier’s personal opinion should be considered especially this issue is associated with ethnical and race. The right of the Iraqi who got forced search should also be banned because clearly, this is against human rights.
Also, the personal mental healthy of these soldier is another important thing to address. For example, some soldiers have unpleasant experiences, therefore, those experiences keeps them away from being willing to serve in such intense military front. Actions of forcibly sending soldiers into Iraq might result in the damage of both mental and psychical health, and brings negative impact to the social perception. In my opinion, besides the efficiency of the troops, to strive for an understandable and a humanized armed force system is also very important. Therefore, I believe these criticisms on these “conscientious objector ” should be

The US Army is like any other business; they are in constant need of new and fresh employees or Soldiers. The US Army for almost ten years now has stretched, bent and broken some of their own recruiting rules in order to keep up with the demands of the wars. Now that the wars are coming to an end, they have started to realize that all the rules that have been stretched, bent and broken really need to be in place. First I will summarize the recruitment of the U.S. Army and then I will discuss what ethical research practices should be avoided in this project. Next I will cover what parties involved in the research could face injury and what injuries could occur. Then I will go over how unethical behavior in this research affects the organization, the individual and society. “The hardest thing about a road not taken is that you never know where it might have led.”-Lisa Wingate Peter Jemley is unique among the growing ranks of war resister who made the decision to flee to Canada instead of being involved in the military. He didn’t take the decision to join the arm lightly. He stated, “It wasn’t a political decision, I didn’t really like the bush administration anymore then, than I do now. But Iraqi’s are people to and I am not afraid of doing difficult things, so I thought I could help.” Peter was not given enough information on what he was expected to do, and he figured they needed him to torture others, due to him being the only one who spoke there language. Secondly, Peter wanted to go into military to help out the country, not to do any crimes. By him not knowing what the government is expecting him to do, he could be expected to do something illegal, like torturing others during war. Due to Peter not getting enough information from the government on his expectations, and whether or not he was expected to do illegal crimes, Peter Jemley should be supported in his decision to desert his position in the U.S military.…

“This publication was the fourth of a series on the Army's Professional Military Ethics (PME) that the Army Chief of Staff, General George Casey, started in 2009. General Casey encouraged the Army to think critically about our PME and promote dialog at all levels as we deepen our understanding of what this time-honored source of strength means to the profession today. In his book, Pfaff (2011) explores the cultural values, challenges the Army faces, in a time of persistent irregular conflicts. Pfaff argues that the challenges come from the nature of the conflict. The guerrilla soldiers change the nature of war from forcing your will on your enemy to convincing the enemy to accept your position.” (Pfaff,…

Zachary Scott-Singley wrote an essay called “A Soldiers Thoughts”. His essay was based on his inner thoughts and questions, how he should and shouldn’t feel about war. Is war right or wrong? Are these people truly the enemy? What would you do to stay alive? I feel war leaves these questions open to discussion and defiantly can change based on the person and the involvement; but the work of war can change a person’s values and morals.…

A controversial subject that I don’t believe in would have to be from an article I have read in USA Today relating to Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who is supposed to be on trial for dersertion. According to (http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/07/14/bergdahl-active-duty-army/12616549/). Desertion is a violation of Article 85 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Being that my husband and I are ex-military and served our country until we both were deemed unable to do so, the story became near and dear to me. I was medically discharged and my husband medically retired, both derived from efforts while serving our country. Recent events in Sgt. Bergdahl was celebrated as a victory, with quotes of “Never leave a fallen soldier” being used loosely for his incident (http://www.businessinsider.com/never-leave-behind-bowe-bergdahl-2014-6). Sgt. Bergdahl was reported as Absent without leave (AWOL) after camera’s taped him leaving the compound. He was then listed as a POW, when he voluntarily left his post. It is a paradox how this individual goes from deserter to hero, and America acts as if he served his time while “imprisoned” in the Taliban prison. Bergdahl is released into public, promoted, and back working at a Ft. Sam Houston. His rank as Sergeant comes with leadership responsibilities; however a quick review of the NCO creed (http://www.army.mil/values/nco.html) leaves the question of will Sgt. Bergdahl live up to the rank given. He has continued to get paid, as did the Major in Ft Hood, until his case catches up and he is proven innocent or guilty of desertion. ( Retrieved from http://www.nbcdfw.com/investigations/Accused-Fort-Hood-Shooter-Paid-278000-While-Awaiting-Trial-208230691.html) Sgt. Bergdahl should be tried; the prolonging of his trial is disrespectful to those who had fallen searching for him, and the additional that may fall due to the release of the 5 high ranking Taliban released for his return. Even if he is…

The United States military dates back to 1775 drafting men initially to fight for their country in which conditions wasn’t the best. As years pass new technology, new weapons, and vehicles to support comes with new rules, regulations, and a vigorous decision making process for senior leaders to ponder on. Below the senior leadership are the people that make it happen, we the soldiers fighting everyday serving our country dealing with all the changes on a daily bases adapting as we go.
