Convergent Narrative
My sister and I climb aboard the bus heading for the school. Beatrice sites down immediately, she is not bothered that other people, some older then her, my have to stand. I give my seat to an older Candor man. Like the rest of the factions, he wears his customary faction dress-a black suit with a white tie.

The rout the bas takes is broken and uneven. That goes for most of the roads, the closer to the center of the city the better they get though, we just have to put up with it. I can tell that Beatrice does not like them. She also can’t understand why i’d give my seat up to someone else, she has not learnt to be selfless yet. That's one of the vertus that your faction, Abnegation, stand for. Beatrice is staring out the window. I wonder what she is thinking about, is it the same as me or maybe the Aptitude tests.

For some reason they interest me. Mable because I want to understand them and why the chose the faction their in. I wonder what faction I should chose. I can’t decide which is better Abnegation or Erudite. If I leave Abnegation I leave my family forever. But to search for knowledge and learning, to be able to understand others and...myself, what I want.

The bus jolts to a stop. Beatrice runs up, takes my arm, and we get of the bus together.

“Aptitude tests today”, Beatrice announced, though I already know it.

I nod in acknowledgement, as we walk through the front door of the school. There are so many students here, but none of them talk to us because we come from Abnegation. The Erudite have been spreading false rumors about the cities leaders who are Abnegation.

Beatrice breaks the silence between us again.

“You aren’t at all worried about what they’ll tell you?”

After raising my eyebrows at her, I ask “Are

In 1942 Maurice Richard entered the National Hockey League. By the year 1946 he was a hero to most boys found in the province of Quebec. “The Hockey Sweater” demonstrates this in the town of St. Justine. Maurice Richard, as known as “The Rocket”, lived in the hearts of all aspiring French hockey players, especially those in Quebec, who tried to not only look like Maurice, but act like him as well. Maurice was a hero to these boys as seen in three ways: his background and rise to the NHL, his talent and position on the Montreal Canadians, and the way the media presented him.…

I grabbed my backpack and wearily headed to my same school, to my same locker, next to the same people. Sadly unlike Carnitas, this gets old. But this day, immediately changed. A boy with long hair and a FCB outfit walked to me cheerfully, almost like a skip. This was my friend Ajay, the social butterfly of the school.…

I never used to write. In fact, I didn’t much like it. Little did I know that writing would become obsolete and a physiological requirement for the well being of my life. From an early age on all I did was read. I grew up in an isolated environment where books were my escape, and escape was necessary from the hardships of home. I remember being a young seven-year-old boy wearing a pillowcase around my neck fastened with a pen. I was eating animal crackers at the time, and my step dad was calling out for me. I stood up from my crouched position and raised my hand as I learned from pre-school, and said, “ I’m here daddy.” At that moment my step father grabbed me by the cape harshly compressing my trachea purposefully, shaking me back and forth with his hands around my neck as I began to choke on the appetizing cracker animal crumbs within the back of my throat. I didn’t understand at the time what was really going on. My mother came out of the room and my dad acted as if nothing happened and told me to…

As we slow to a pause I comprehend the importance of finding a seat before another onslaught of eager people pour onto the bus filling in all available vacancies. Should vaccinations be mandatory for children entering school? At the present time, all fifty states in the United States require children entering public school to be vaccinated. However, no federal vaccination laws exist (ProCon.org, Children Vaccinations, Did you know?). Many parents hold religious beliefs against vaccination. Forcing such parents to vaccinate their children would violate the First Amendment, which guarantees citizens the right to the free exercise of their religion. Others believe that common childhood vaccinations may cause rare, yet serious reactions.…

Most people rely on the security and care of others to provide for their loved ones when they put them in a nursing home. What they don’t realize is how much neglect goes on to the people they care most about. Residents are at risk of being abused by their caretakers but they are also at risk of being restrained, which may lead to a form of abuse. At Southwestern Nursing Home I have witnessed forms of neglect and abuse. Nursing homes are meant to be a place for security for the elderly to be cared for in their golden years, and it has become an unpleasant experience for senior citizens being subjected to acts of abuse and neglect.…
