Pre-planning is not an official step of GMPP. In the pre-planning you want to brainstorm how you are going to evaluate the program. Basically, you are getting your ideas together, understanding the population, and engaging the population to take control of the program. The Assessing Needs step of GMPP is the first official step, which is the process of collecting and analyzing data to determine
the health needs of population and can include priority setting and the identification of a priority population (McKenzie et al., 2013). The second step is Setting Goals and Objectives, which identifies what, will be accomplished while interventions or programs are the means by which the goals and objectives will be achieved (McKenzie et al., 2013). Then, the third step is Developing Interventions, which are the activities that you will have the program. In more details interventions include how the goals and objectives will be accomplished (McKenzie et al., 2013). Next, the fourth step is Implementation Interventions, which is the process of putting interventions into action (McKenzie et al., 2013). Lastly, the fifth step is Evaluating Results, which refers to focuses on improving the quality of intervention (formative evaluation) as well as determining their effectiveness (summative evaluation) (McKenzie et al., 2013).
Also, the “Cooking Matters” program used PRECEDE-PROCEED to go further in details since GMPP is limited (See Appendix B). “PRECEDE is an acronym for predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling constructs in educational/ecological diagnosis and evaluation” (Green & Kreuter, 2005, p.9). “PROCEED stands for policy, regulatory, and organizational constructs in educational and environmental development” (Green & Kreuter, 2005, p.9).
