The Coolest Invention

Are you tired of being hot? Well, air conditioners are your friend. In 1902, the first modern electrical air condition was invented by Willis Haviland Carrier. The reason for it was to solve some problems a printer was having with papers in the summer (“Title” 1). Air conditioners and refrigerators worked the same way. Instead of cooling just the small, insulated space inside of a refrigerator, an air conditioner cools a room, whole house, and/or entire business. Air conditioners use chemicals that easily convert gas to a liquid and back again. Extreme heat has a clear negative impact on the intellect and on physical activity and the use of air conditioning can go some way to rectifying this. It improves comfort levels at work and at leisure. It improves job performance. It can result in increased physical and intellectual activity. Air conditioners changed the world positively because before then, there were only two ways to stay cool in hot weather. One was to migrate toward the sea or the mountains. The other was to raise the rate of the evaporation of sweat by increasing air circulation across the skin. The hand fan is at least 5,000 years old. Air conditioning can be good for your health for these reasons. First, It keeps the air dry, prevents bacterial and virus growth. This is what hospitals do. Secondly, It can have a pollen filter installed, cutting down on allergies (change the filter frequently). Finally, It can keep the temperatures moderate, thus not making people Air conditioning can be bad for health. Also, if the ducts are not kept clean, such as mold growing in them, or too much dust. Furnaces, should be professionally cleaned once a year by a furnace expert. Car air conditioning follows most of the same principles, regarding comfort, safety of driving and mold. They should be used once or twice a month year round, just to keep the airflow

Manifest Destiny was mainly a selfish and egotistical ideal that inspired Americans to flock westward during the 1840s. The term is defined as the belief that westward expansion was the God-given right of Americans, even their duty, to spread their population to the West all the way to the Pacific Ocean. It was extremely damaging to several parties who found themselves in the path of the hordes of migrants, yet Americans came to be pompous and arrogant, considering their democratic lifestyles better than any other in the world. Blinding themselves to the injustices of their expansion, America spread west.…

During the seventeenth century in England, outside temperatures reached so low during the winter that it is actually considered to be a “mini ice age” by scientists today. During this time, people were still somewhat fatalistic and believed that cold was an act of god, and that people should just leave it alone. That was until an alchemist named Cornelius Drebbel came along. Drebbel bet the King he could turn summer into winter by chilling the air in the Great Hall of Westminster. Drebbel did so by using ordinary table salt, which will lower the temperature at which ice melts, to keep a freezing mixture as cold as possible while he ran warm air over it. Because of his elaborate design, Drebbel’s invention worked and he invented the first “air conditioning unit” of his time. However, Drebbel’s invention was never documented and he was never given credit.…

The first known use of central heating was in the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, Greece. The temple was kept warm through a system that was built beneath the floor. This system included a furnace and the heat generated by the furnace would travel through flues in the floor which in turn would heat the room (Austin). However, it became an integral part of a vicious circle: by consuming huge amounts of energy, air conditioners are contributing to climate change. As Plester (2016) states, similarly to a fridge, air conditioners pump out extra heat straight into the atmosphere. That extra heat makes cities hotter, raising night-time temperatures by up to 2C, which then encourages people to turn up their air conditioning even higher. Besides, air conditioning systems use powerful greenhouse gases called hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which are thousands of times more potent than carbon…

Death can be written in many ways throughout poetry. Authors may sometimes use their own experience to write about what death means to them. In the poems, “Funeral Blues”, “Don’t Go Gentle Into That Good Night”, and “To The Mercy Killers”, the authors have described their theme, being death, in very different ways.…

Apart from the harm to the driver, a problem of poor ventilation is caused by the idling engine ban, which affects both drivers and passengers. As stated by the government, vehicles are the second largest local source of air pollutants. In the middle of the road where traffic is intense, if a driver has to switch off the air conditioner and open the windows, the driver and the passengers will breathe in harmful gases which will affect their health in the long term. Also, when the temperature reaches above 30 degrees in summer, drivers and passengers have a high chance of suffering from heat strokes if the air conditioner is turned off. To maintain a driver’s good condition of health is crucial when driving, therefore the idling engine ban is not feasible.…
