The objective of this experiment was to identify the unknown pure copper salt compound of #9. To do this, the mass of copper in the unknown was calculated and then divided by the mass of the whole compound to get the percent copper. The molecular weight was also calculated by dividing mass of copper compound used by moles of compound in unknown sample. The percent copper averaged out to 31.6% while the molecular weight of the sample averaged out to 201.1mw. In conclusion, the unknown compound of pure copper salt was close to Cu(C2H3O2)2 •H2O which has a percent copper of 31.8% and a molecular weight of 199.654mw.…

There are two main methods used to extract copper from its ores. Generally, copper is extracted using the Pyrometallurgical method (also known as smelting), which allows us to separate copper from its sulfide and oxide ores; the other method, called the Hydrometallurgical method (also known as solvent extraction or electrowinning - SX/EW), allows us to also separate copper from its oxide ores. Although this method is more cost effective, it only accounts for a very limited amount of the world’s copper production as its environmental impact is much stronger than that of pyrometallurgy - the by-products of hydrometallurgy contain much higher concentrations of sulfur and metal particulates.…

In this experiment, we used an electronic balance to weight a clean, dry crucible before obtaining a sample of copper (II) sulfate (CuSO4), bright blue crystals, from the instructor. We then weighted two samples for the first and second trial with the crucible and found the samples’ weight to be 1.19 g and 1.55 g, respectively. A Bunsen burner was then set up for the heating of the crucible, with a wire triangle on the iron ring ensuring that the wire triangle will hold the crucible in an upright position. After setting up the Bunsen burner we heated the crucible with copper (II) sulfate for around eight minutes. During the heating process we haven’t noticed any splattering or popping of the material. After the 8-minute…

When a student enters college many responsibilities are now placed on that student, not only having to make their own meals or manage enough a time for class work, but physical activity is another responsibility that a student has to make important. At a school like Cornell College, there is no such thing as physical activity for college credit, which leaves it up to the students to fulfill their needs. In the research journal, A Meta-Analysis of College Students’ Physical Activity Behaviors, a study is done to view college students’ physical activity patterns, determinants, and habits. The results of the study concluded that higher education does not influence students to become physically active adults (Keating, Guan, Pinero, & Bridges, 2005). If higher education cannot get the students to grasp the importance of physical activity, a Strength and Conditioning coach would be able to. A Strength and Conditioning coach would be put in place at Cornell not only to show students and…
