The No Child Left behind Act is a policy that was put into place with the intention of closing the achievement gap between students in school. In order to ensure that this outcome would occur there were many people and organizations involved such as the government, Department of Education and schools. Many new regulations were also enacted in order to decrease the achievement gap. These regulations ensured that schools were held accountable for their students learning. If schools failed to meet these new requirements, punishments occurred. Testing became a huge part of the NCLB, testing students, teachers and schools, were one way the governments ensured that change was occurring in schools. The No Child Left Behind…

“The present situation of the public school in the Philippines is very much alarming and needs urgent action. The perennial problem of scarcity funds for school buildings, classrooms, desks and chairs has further deteriorated the quality of learning in public schools. This is one of the reasons why our public education system continues to lag behind our Southeast Asian neighbors.”(Ejercito,House Bill 669). This situation has always been the problem of the Philippine public education system regardless of the numerous bills and existing laws that have been in the corners and walls of our legislature. The worsening crisis of the education system aggravated the crisis we are into branching out several poverty-related problems such as the child labor.…

the crisis of the Philippine education system, in all levels, is stemmed not on the superficial, in this case the number of schooling years, but rather on the conditions and foundation on which it subsists. Unless the government addresses in earnest poor public spending, high costs of schooling, the predominance of a colonial curriculum, lack of transparency and accountability amid widespread corruption within the sector and the development of the country’s science and technology for domestic development, all efforts will remain on the surface and neither 10 nor 12 years would make much of difference.”…

Quality of Education - This is the first major issue that the Philippine government should resolve but somehow it is recently improving. The quality of Philippine education has declined few years ago due to poor results from standard entrance tests conducted among elementary and secondary students, as well as the tertiary levels. The results were way below the target mean score. High dropout rates, high number of repeaters, low passing grades, lack of particular language skills, failure to adequately respond and address the needs of people with special needs, overcrowded classrooms, and poor teacher performances, have greatly affected the quality of education in the Philippines.…

Canada is not untouched by corruption as many of us would like to think. On the morning of Wednesday July 17 the Montreal replacement mayor Michael Applebaum, who recently took office amid a corruption scandal, was arrested in a bribery case. He was picked up at his home Monday by Quebec’s anti-corruption unit as part of a broader investigation into construction deals involving mafia-linked figures and involving a public official who recently committed suicide. Applebaum faces 14 charges including fraud, conspiracy, breach of trust, and corruption in municipal affairs, prompting widespread demands for his resignation. Just seven months ago Applebaum rose to his role by promising to lead Montreal out of its era of corruption. He is now being forced to step down and leave stewardship of the city to its ruling coalition until Montrealers head again to vote in November. Unfortunately for Canada corruption doesn’t stop with this arrest, there is a long list of city mayors who are under suspicion. This only further deepens the distrust and uncertainty of the citizens around the whole country.…

According to President Benigno S. Aquino III (2012), our education needs to add two more years for Basic Education Curriculum. Those who can afford pay up to fourteen years of schooling before university. Thus, their children are getting into the best universities and the best jobs after graduation. Mr. President Aquino wants at least 12 years for the school children to give them an even chance at succeeding. In line with this, the Philippine Constitution (2012) states that, the state shall establish, maintain, and support a complete, adequate, and integrated system of education relevant to the needs of the people and society. Such mandate gives justice to the basic rights of every Filipino child: the right to quality education and the right to a quality life.…

    * In our present time, we see that teachers are indemand and in the curriculum they implemented, teachers are needed. MORE EXCELLENT teachers are needed to be able to produce globally competitive students. There are many taking Education as their course but where are they? Most of them are working overseas. A proof that Philippines doesn’t need to adopt the education system of other countries for Filipinos to be successful and productive citizens. Now that K-12 program is already in use, the government should figure out how and where can they get the people to produce competitive, bright students.…

Sadly, I think that the educational system in our country is not that good. We always hear politicians giving speeches about the youth being our nation’s only hope, but the government does not set aside enough funds for the proper schooling of young Filipinos. Many news reports show us schools who lack books, chairs, pencils and even classrooms at times! Is it so hard for the government to provide students with their own set of books when the government officials themselves can afford to own about ten or more houses each costing at least one million pesos? Another factor which proves that the Philippines has a poor system of education is that the government fails to give the proper support to several skilled and talented young Filipinos. Sure the government hands out scholarships to several intellectually gifted students who excel in subjects like Math or Science. What about students who are gifted in other aspects though? Education is not limited to the four corners of the classroom. Rather, education refers to a general sense of learning wherein knowledge, skills and habits are transferred from one to…
