CHANGE OVER TIME ESSAY

Example Questions:

Analyze the cultural and political changes and continuities in ONE of the following civilizations during the last centuries of the classical era.
Chinese, 100 C.E. to 600 C.E.
Roman, 100 C.E. to 600 C.E.
Indian, 300 C.E. to 600 C.E.

Hints:

No “data dumping” – Do not write down everything you know and hope that something answers the question. There needs to be a purpose to what you are writing and some sort of logic to the organization of your essay.
You must discuss both continuity and change.
Think of this question as a tunnel – Things were a certain way when you enter the tunnel but everything is different when you come out of the tunnel. You are describing the changes that took place as you went through the tunnel.
Follow the rubric! It is your best friend when you are writing this essay. Keep it next to you at all times while you are writing. If you do this, you will not forget to include something important!

You may have to overlap information across sections since rubric items sometimes can’t be explained alone without covering another rubric item. Do your best to answer each item and go into more specific detail about the supporting rubric item in its individual section.…
