Students at Skidmore College were experiencing wait times of up to a week to meet with a counselor if the student didn’t report themselves as suicidal. In response to the need for greater availability for mental health counselors two Skidmore students started an online petition asking for three additions to the Skidmore counseling center’s offerings. 50,000 people signed the petition prompting college representatives to meet with the students who originated the petition to discuss changes to the counseling center, mainly access to an outside firm to provide 34-hour telephone mental health support
