The concept of counselling has existed for many years (Gordan, 2011). It requires counsellors who are authentic as it is an intimate and complex form of learning (Corey G. , 2014) as seen in the statement above. Counsellors do not have a specific manual to indicate a course of action within counselling, therefore it can be intimidating at times for a counsellor as to whether or not they are treating their client effectively and ethically. Therefore, let’s analyze the statement in terms of effective ethical counselling.
The code of ethics are very important but basic guidelines for counsellors and a great way to commence this quote analysis. The ethics code is broad and general and does not provide specific answers to ethical dilemmas in counselling

This results in empathy fatigue and can occur when counselors treat individuals of traumatic events (Corey G. C., 2015). Therefore, it is vital for counsellors to learn how to detach and become more resilient and practice self-care (Corey G. C., 2015). Self-compassionate counsellors are likely to be compassionate towards their client’s, hence resulting in successful therapy (Corey G. C., 2015). Counsellors values are core beliefs which influence how they act, professionally and personally (Corey G. , 2014). Hence, I think it is a vital part of the counselling process and the effectiveness of the counsellor. Counsellors aim is to provide a safe environment where client’s feel safe and respected (Midwinter, 2015), hence counselors must impose their values onto their clients (Corey G. , 2014). Counselors must be able to work with various clients who have diverse worldviews and values (Corey G. C., 2015). Therefore, counsellors need to explore their values and know their stance to counsel effectively and unbiasedly. What we need to remember is that counsellors often ask their client’s
