Courage To Know: Personal Statement
I can trace back my inspiration for becoming a "Data Ninja" from my school, the tagline is "Courage to Know". Due to my thirst for knowledge and ability to crunch data in a meaningful way, I took up engineering where I learned the basics of data management mostly in the realm of electrical / electronic world of machines and semiconductors. I also opted for a number of numerical methods and computing classes as well programming classes during my college. I still remember those college days when I was enthralled to learn the usage of regression analysis in fields of power system stability. The data driven decision-making thought process, developed throughout my four years of engineering has been instrumental in my success and career progression. …show more content…

On the top of that, the course cost is within my reach and I can complete masters without increasing financial burden. Additionally, I relish online courses as they provide the flexibility to complete education based on my schedule. The plethora of engaging videos, online collaboration, and targeted coursework is enticing. I always recall how the online data community helped me to solve a data issue to extract information from remote oil rigs. This course is a rigorous but flexible program that matches the way I like to …show more content…

In this regard, when I looked into the OMSA course curriculum, it was apparent that the program is a good blend of the strengths from three colleges: College of Computing, College of Engineering and Scheller College of Business. This is a commendable initiative, which will provide me with the best of these worlds. With my background, I always advocate the need to evolve cross-disciplinary skills to solve real-life problems, which can be accomplished with OMSA. With this learning, I can immediately identify, analyze, and solve analytics problems for better business intelligence and decision support at my current workplace.
To conclude, I am applying to OMSA because of the program's solid foundation in data analytics course work; also because I enjoy online learning and interested in pursuing an industry focused practicum to marry theoretical learnings with practical solution. I want to thank all Georgia Tech's staff and faculty involved in this course for providing an opportunity to working professional like me to satisfy our thirst for

In this course, you are responsible for your own work, your own progress, and your own grade. In order to succeed, you need to back up every piece of work you do on disk and make a hard copy. If you experience computer difficulties you are responsible for solving your own technical problems. Heavy internet use occurs during the evening hours of 8-10pm. You might consider logging on at other times if possible.…

Jenkins mentioned that online classes are a better choice, but not with all classes. Jenkins asks, "Can we agree that none of us would want to be operated on by surgeons who received all of their medical training online?” Online classes have their limits, but also have more conveniences. For example, Jenkins states that "For students who aren't able to attend college in the traditional way, "good enough", can be a godsend". They are less costly and the enrollment rate is higher than on-campus courses. Online courses seem to be the future according to Jenkins.…

When Mr. Drucker says, "Be data literate" he means that one should know how to use data effectively to the company 's benefit. There are two challenges that one faces in attempting to be data literate. The first challenge is deciding what information to use, what is should be used for and how it should be used. The second challenge is how to test and put the data together with the existing information system to make them effective in a company 's decision process. Firstly, there are many advantages or reasons why someone would want to take an online course. One of the main reasons people take an online course is for flexibility of time. Flexibility of time corresponds to the online classes being available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, usually. This allows for one to plan their classes around their schedule, rather than their schedule around their classes. For this reason, it is often popular for people who need to work but still want to get a college education. It is also popular for parents who are working or have small children they need to take care of. Another example would be someone who has difficulty waking up for morning classes. Online can be arranged so that you can work at your convenience of time.…

In assessment of online and classroom (on-ground) knowledge gives specific students that has interest according to how they learn. Taking online classes for me works so much better because I can go at my own pace. After doing some research online I found that there is a debate regarding the matter of online classes vs. traditional classrooms. At a point in time I recently had a debate on their opinion in classroom learning and the online classes. Their opinion has given me a better understanding on the format in relation with on ground classroom setting. Although I feel strongly about my online courses my friend says they will never stop attending school on site. As I continue on I will state the difference of the classroom setting, online classes, and the summary response towards from the textbook. As well as, give some example of the differences between older and younger students attending traditional classroom and online classes.…

The biggest thing I have learned from this class is that I don't think I would be a great online learner. I am a more one-on-one person who likes to see people and talk with people. I like to see facial expressions from people when talking with them and this proved to be a very difficult course for me. Originally going into this I thought I would love it and this might prove to be a way for me to complete my master's degree. I took this course for two reasons; one because I was required to by my employer because of our recent agreement with Franklin and two, because I truly wanted to know what online learning is about. I am glad I took the course but I don't know that I could take another one. It would have to be something I thought about for a long time before making that decision.…
