9 companies hiring in April
CareerBuilder.co.uk

There is no denying the facts: According to the latest numbers from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), unemployment in the UK has risen to its highest level in 17 years -- eight per cent.
However, John Philpott, chief economic adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), said the UK labour market figures also offered room for optimism: "Figures showing more people in work in the private sector, including in manufacturing, and fewer on welfare benefits offer hope that the labour market might withstand the economic headwinds better than previously expected."
Scotland is currently seeing an increase in demand for workers. According to the latest Labour Market Barometer from the Bank of Scotland, both temporary and part-time job placements have improved.
Although it might seem so, it's not all doom and gloom. Especially not when you look at the following 9 companies that are hiring this month:
Betfair
The Betfair group of companies ('Betfair') offers a global portfolio of gambling products and services. This includes the world's leading betting exchange (a concept pioneered by Betfair), which is provided in the UK.
Available positions: Betfair is hiring in the areas corporate, marketing, products and services, technology and they seek talented graduates for their graduate programme.
Hilton Worldwide
Hilton Worldwide is a leading global hospitality company, with over 3,000 hotels totalling over 500,000 hotel rooms in 80 countries and territories. The company already has over 100,000 team members

In surveying general labour trends over the year period, according to ABS data (Australian Bureau of Statistics) the unemployment rate has remained stable at 5.1% with employment opportunities overall increasing by 1.3%. This shows growth in the overall labour market; however this is not reflected in statistics in the manufacturing industry. In the period Aug 10 – Aug 11, job vacancies in the manufacturing industry have decreased by 26%, from 14.0 to 10.4 (unit ‘000). This is in vast contrast to the overall labour market trend of vacancies increasing by 1% over the same period. Assumptions can be made…

Figure 1 shows the annual unemployment rate and immigration rate in the United Kingdom over the period of 1983-2010. From Figure 1 we can see that the unemployment rate was relatively high in the early 1980s, at a period when Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister, and the country was buckling under the strain of mass unemployment and a period of recession. Rather than cutting taxes, Mrs Thatcher and her Chancellor Geoffrey Howe decided to raise taxes and to make it even more brutal they reduced government spending. These contractionary fiscal policies only added to the worsening unemployment levels, which we can see in Figure 1 by the peaking unemployment levels in the mid-1980s. However, towards the end of the…
