In the text ‘Coyote and Wasichu’ it talks about how some people are too naive and gullible that they overestimate their strengths. During the text, the Wasichu believed that the coyote required so many of his belongings to retrieve a cheating medicine that he didn't realise that he was being fooled. In his mindset, he believed that he was better than everyone else and thought that he’d be able to fool the coyote.
The universal theme in ‘Coyote and Wasichu’ is that people should never overestimate their strengths as there will always be one person who may outsmart you. In the text, a man says “there’s somebody who can out cheat you anytime, anywhere.” This emphasises that some believe they are the only ones who can do things perfectly, they realise it too late that it doesn't work that way. They become hurt when someone touches their pride as they have lost. Wasichu had a strong sense of pride so he listened to everything coyote said as he believed he was the best and that no matter what he uses he will always win. Coyote said “ well friend, I'm a poor rider. Your horse is afraid of me and I'm afraid of him. Lend me your clothes; then your horse will think that I am you”. In our society today, many people are naive and will believe anything people tell them. For example, in phone call scams people claim to be from companies that you have won ‘jackpot’ and ask you to give them all your details and that the money will be transferred to your account. At this point, people don’t realise that they are being fooled and will lose their money. Nobody is born the best in what they do, you learn more and become better through learning from everyone
