Creative Essay WRITING
It is 4 p.m. on Tuesday. What will you do next? Write about your extracurricular pursuits. Why and how do you choose the activities you are involved in? How do your activities reflect your values and affect your school, community or the world? (500 words or less)

As a young teen I have many hobbies and interests. Sadly, only a few of them are practiced after school on weekdays. I am involved in many things so most of my day is always busy. After school I head home and change to attend my ballet classes every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday for one hour each. Then I have guitar lessons on the same days in the same buildings. I also am on my Masjids Muslim girl swimming team. Along with this I do henna tattoo at a salon. My various hobbies and interests have influenced my values and my community. At the age of fourteen, I was going through stress and depression due to rumors about me at school. My mom enrolled me in ballet classes and soon ballet became my life. I attended classes religiously and practiced a lot. Ballet lets me challenge myself since my body type isn’t that of ballerinas. Ballet helped me set my values of how a girl should look and act. Ballet instills manners, poise and class into a young lady. My dad was in a band when he was in college so my sister and I inherit that quality from him. I was six years old when my dad got me my first guitar and taught me how to play. Music allows you to express your feelings through a song and with all the emotions being expressed through the guitar. Even though I am aware that music is haraam, I can’t seem to give up on my passion for the guitar. The guitar and I have a bond that runs deeper then blood. The guitar is something that I hope to share with my future soul mate. For many years I had a phobia from water, I have finally overcame that fear through my local masajid. My masajid has a muslim girl swimming team and I was asked to join. I accepted and learned how to swim. Ever since I love it and it si a

    History of Ballet

The first experience of watching a ballet, for me or any little girl, can be fascinating and exhilarating. Wondering how a dancer can be so steady on her toes as she spins in circles and leaps through the air. Watching a ballet, there is a feeling of wanting to be graceful, as well as the warm sensation felt by a little girl as she slips into dream land. My mom had taken me to my first ballet when I was 11 years old. When we returned home home, she signed me up for classes at the local dance center. The expectations to become a prima ballerina would involve much hard work and concentration. I knew when I started it would take years of steady practice and commitment. Learning the history of ballet and the famous dancers made me intrigued. I wanted to be like them. So I had set the goal, then I set the pace. To my misfortune I was unable to reach my goal. Gymnastics was another activity I enjoyed. I was unaware of the damage I was doing to my body until I found myself in a hospital bed being told by the doctors, no more dancing. I could no longer practice ballet, I could only watch. I have no regrets. Watching a ballet is just as much fun.…

As time went on, I became more serious about ballet. It became my passion. Nights at the studio multiplied from one night to two to four. From my very first day of kindergarten in 2003 and all the way through my final year in high school, the idea of being involved in extracurricular activities has been advocated repeatedly. As a five year old I was encouraged to join the recreational soccer team, volleyball team, basketball team, T-ball team, dance team, and brownie scouts. These sports, clubs, and outside of school activities have become even more significant as I grew older. In middle school, I was invited to join the student council, the Art Club, the Literary Club, the school band, and the “5th Grade Rockin’ Rockets Choir” as well. Not wanting to miss out on anything, I eagerly begged my parents to let me join all of the activities. An even larger array of activities were presented to me when I entered high school. There were constant announcements to “Join Chem Club”, “Try out for the dance team” and to “Come to the Spanish Club meeting tomorrow in the library.” I could not resist taking advantage of nearly every opportunity my high school offered. Extracurricular activities and sports taught me to get involved with my peers, to take a step out of my comfort zone, and to learn how to manage a busy schedule.…

Guitar is one of the most popular musical instruments to learn because of its versatility and portability. When I was in high school, I had an abundance of leisure time. I wanted to do something meaningful and fun instead of wasting time on playing video games, so I decided to learn a musical instrument. Honestly speaking, I was a good singer; however, singing without a musical instrument to accompany me seemed strange. That is why I made up my mind to learn to play the guitar. Now I realize that I made a wise decision.…
