College Admissions Essay: Citizenship In High School
Throughout my academic years, I have made it a priority to stay as involved in my school and community as I possibly can, as I feel that citizenship is one of the most important traits a person should possess. Academics are an area of my life in which I try and challenge and push myself, as well as surround myself with those who will also motivate and challenge me. I have recently found myself enjoying english, chemistry, psychology, Spanish, and math primarily. Throughout the past few years, apart from focusing on my studies, I have tried to stay involved within my school.
Freshmen year, as high school was a new and exhilarating experience, I was ecstatic about throwing myself into all the different opportunities high school has to offer. I found myself reaching for a leadership role and became the President of the freshmen class. As the President of the freshmen class, I took on the responsibility of leading the Freshmen homecoming festivities (hall decorations, spirit chains, game advertisements, etc.), assisted in the Change Drive for cancer research, and worked continuously to be a model representative of my peers, to name a few. I also became a member of FFA which allowed me to spend time volunteering in my school’s greenhouse and help around

The SAT award is the Superintendent Academic Team Award and I have received one ever since I began attending public school in seventh grade. More recently, I have been given two Eagle Awards, one in the spring of last year, Freshmen year, and one this past semester, fall of my Sophomore year. An Eagle Award is an award based on the attitude, respectfulness, and the character at Northeastern High School in which current teachers nominate a student whom they believe to have exemplary character and put forth their best efforts in class. I have also always been an A Honor Roll

I was very reserved when I first started high school, but after attending a leadership training conference in 2011, my personality, my confidence, and my overall life outlook changed for the better. Ever since, I have returned to that conference each summer as a counselor in order to help others find their voices as well. At around the same time, I began working at the Sweet Spot Bake Shoppe, helping customers, preparing products for sale, taking specialty orders, and assisting in regular tasks. After about three years at the bakery, I headed up to Connecticut for college as an Honors student, undecided in terms of a major. It entailed me taking many classes across multiple departments, getting involved in several clubs, and attending diverse lectures, but after freshman year, I realized my true interests lie in business, specifically management information systems.…

While in tenth grade I took grade eleven science and then, in grade eleven, I took grade twelve math and sciences. This resulted in beginning my grade twelve year with three grade twelve courses already completed because I also took a summer school English course. Overall, throughout my education I have worked hard to do well, putting aside the outside influences of family and friends, in order to pursue my post-secondary path. I not only worked ahead in my courses but being a part of the school community has also been an essential factor. I have participated in clubs at school throughout my four years, but I also volunteer and work outside of school. I am currently a member of Girls Respect Group (GRG) and JUMP; I have been a member since grade 11 and grade 9, respectively. In GRG this year I have held a senior position where my duties are more behind-the-scenes. For example, when we hosted the Women’s Day Breakfast I was in charge of writing donation letters, getting in contact with possible guest speakers, etc.; whereas, younger/newer members did more speaking and running around at the actual event. In JUMP I do not hold any positions because I chose to dedicate more time to Girls Respect Group; however, I am still an active member and attend events and meetings…

There is not a single feeling greater than the one you experience when you make a positive impact on someone else’s life. Thankfully, I was able to experience that in my junior year. My high school has a program called Link Crew that is designed to help alleviate the anxiety of freshmen’s transition in to high school. When I signed up to get involved, I never realized how strongly it would affect not only my life, but also the life of everyone else who came in contact with it one way or another. Junior year was my first year involved in the program. At first, I was not sure if I would be able to handle it because it was a club that required a large time commitment. I was already involved in my advisory board, student council, and also I had been on the varsity softball team for both years prior to my junior year, along with working anywhere from three to five days a week. It was a very busy time in my life for a while, but I soon came to realize that Link Crew was completely worth it once I started seeing the effect it had on my school.…

I am a graduate from Glen Oaks Community College and I would love to continue my education with Glen Oaks and their Nursing Program. I am a very athletic person, therefore in my free time my activities include running, playing sports, coaching and being involved with my family. Working two jobs, one being a Nursing Assistant and Unit Technician at The Community Health Center of Branch County and the other doing in home care for an elderly patient, does make it difficult to find free time. With what little free time I do have I enjoy spending it with my family as they are very important to me. I try to make it a routine to visit with my grandmas to have lunch with them and to drive them around where ever is needed due to the fact that they both cannot drive. I am currently training to run a marathon in May. During softball season, I volunteer with the coaching staff at the Coldwater High School. My greatest satisfaction so far in life, is the fact that I am one of few to have graduated from a college with a degree within my family. I am proud to say that I have paid for me education with my hard work. I hope with the help of Glen Oaks Community College I can obtain a new satisfaction of becoming a nurse. It would be my dream come true.…

Ensuring full citizenship promotes the idea that students with disabilities are entitled to full participation in American life. This is saying no matter what or who you are everyone is treated equal. As people in this world we need to accept others opinions, beliefs and lifestyle because not everyone is the same. In this day in age everyone needs to accept people for who they are and not judge them just because we think we can judge them.…

There is so much that has happened in the last three, almost four, years of my life while attending Kalamazoo Central High School. I have gotten to know people, lost people, found out things about myself, I’ve had good times, and even some really devastating times. And even through all of the things that have happened they made me who I am today. There are somethings I wish I would have done differently with the time I’ve spent these last few years. So if I were given the chance to have lunch with my freshman self I would one, slap some sense into myself, and two really talk to myself about all the upcoming changes and how to handle them, advice on people and the situations I would be faced with, and people I should listen to because they know…

There are several goals I have set for myself in college; I aspire to make the dean's-list in all the years I attend college, I anticipate participating in a minimum of two organizations which can get me more absorbed in the community, and finally, I want to become involved with the student body, and attend as many school sponsored events as I can. In my junior year, when I heard I made the honor roll at my high school, I was overcome with a feeling of fulfillment. This was the first time I had made the honor roll and with this achievement was a feeling of pride for the work I put in, and for the way the work reflected in my grades. But, I stayed hungry and kept working to maintain this honor, and I finished on the honor role for the entirety…

National honors society is based off of four pillars: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. My whole life I have been committed to learning; I have been in the top of my class since I started middle school. This year as a senior, I will be graduating with more credits than my school requires, an honors diploma, and multiple college credit. I have the privilege of participating in a new program at my school that allows me to take classes at a local community college expense free. I have taken advantage of this opportunity and am partaking in the challenge of learning a second language.…

I was the type of student to do the bare minimum and do whatever it takes just to get by. Going into this senior year I thought it was going to be a breeze but I've been wrong before. This senior year has taught me that if I want to be successful in my life then I need to give it my all just like Jesus commanded us too. This past summer I started to look into colleges I would be interested in playing football for. I found a few schools in Wisconsin that interested me so me and my mother drove 28 hours in a Prius to go visit 4 schools. During the trip I realized that college is closer than it seems. College is not just something we dream of one day but it is the next step in our lives. I am extremely excited for what God holds for me in the future and am ready to face life's challenges. High school is a lot of pressure but we all will look back one day and remember the good times of it. I am very thankful for the people in my life that have made me the man I am today. Finding the right college is going to a hard decision but I know God will put me at the place I need to be an I am very excited wherever that is going to…
