Creative Writing: City Council Meeting

I went to the city council meeting in Elma. City council members present were Gerald Haar, Terry Granahan, Emily Ptacek, and Laura Zenner. The mayor was there his name is Jerry Steven and the city clerk was Shannon Gebel. The main city guy that takes care of stuff like mowing the lawns and closing roads off was there to his name is Dennis O’Brien also known as Denny.
The main topic that I wanted to hear about the most was about having chickens in town. They were going to have a resolution but since one of the council members were questioning it they decided to do a public hearing before they make the resolution. When I was at the meeting someone said we don’t live in New York City we live in Elma, IA and we should be able to have chickens in
Denny closed off the road right away. He was to call city council people first he said he called one and he said it was ok and he tried calling another but he didn’t answer and he went to where one was work but he said he couldn’t right now and that Denny would have to wait until he was on break. So Denny closed off the road and contacted a company to get a piece for it. Denny got piece ordered but didn’t have an estimate. He called a guy up and he told him 15,000 to 20,000 dollars to put piece in and how much the piece cost but that doesn’t include the black top.
They told Denny that anything over 5,000 dollars needs to be approved by council not a committee which is 2 people. They are trying to see if fema will pay for some of this since it was probably mainly caused from the flooding. They were wondering if they should get fema to come put a scope down the drain under the viaduct to see if the damage was from all the water coming from under the viaduct. After they get the manhole problem fixed they need to patch up main street since that is where the detour goes and combines and tractors have been going down it and it has been getting torn up
