Evret's life is awful as well, being forced to marry her right after his wife died in childbirth! Plus Levana took on a glorified glamour of his dead wife! I am glad that Levana kept care of Winter, even if Winter doesn't care for her. Evert could have handled seeing Levana's true appearance better though. Such as when Levana had a nightmare in the very first chapter of the book. She dreamed of flames and being burnt. Then in the second to last chapter we find out why she is terrified of fire, and how her sister was truly a soulless, horrible person. I'm unsure of what you would recall reverse foreshadowing, because this book does that as well. The reader already knows who Levana turns into, but now we find out why.
I'm very glad I didn't decide to skip this book and move onto Winter. It really showed the readers why she acts the way she does and why she hates mirrors. It may have been an easy read, but definitely worth
