Creighton University School Of Medicine: Personal Statement

As I researched Creighton University School of Medicine, I discovered a school with a rich history, an innovative curriculum, and a mission statement that aligns with my personal interests and goals. I was further impressed that although Creighton University School of Medicine opened its doors to students over 120 years ago, the school understands that medicine is a continually evolving field and is dedicated to preparing students for these changes.

Creighton University maintains a unique instructional philosophy that values students as individuals. With case-based small-group sessions and grading on a honors/satisfactory/unsatisfactory system, Creighton University exercises sincere interest in and support for its medical students. This fosters cooperation and collaboration amongst students, creating a friendly atmosphere in which students strive and encourage one another to become the best physicians possible.
Currently, my aspirations lie towards Pediatrics. With frequent visits to the doctor’s office due to illnesses and infections from my vesicoureteral reflux as a child, the health care setting became a place I was comfortable with. Furthermore, my experiences volunteering at Kids Come First Community Health Clinic and tutoring disadvantaged children through Project Literacy have confirmed my desire to work with this population. The early primary care clinical experiences and required primary care clerkships will help confirm that Pediatrics is the ideal fit for me.

Creighton University also provides abundant research facilities and opportunities. By conducting research at The Cardiac Center or participating in the Summer Research Internship Program, I will complement my clinical training and develop into a well-rounded
