The healthcare system is like the human body. It takes many systems working together simultaneously, to keep the patient alive. Just as the body …show more content…
tries to maintain homeostasis, the healthcare system tries to maintain a thriving system. The shortage of healthcare providers in the United States is one situation keeping the healthcare system deficient. To help with this issue, one of the best concepts to promote healthcare careers is education. Educating the public about the shortage of healthcare workers can open their eyes to the great opportunities in healthcare fields. As the population becomes older and the "baby boomers" retire, the need to provide healthcare to these people will escalate. A dire need for family physicians and nurse practitioners will arise, especially in rural areas. As more registered nurses become nurse practitioners, that then leaves a shortage of registered nurses. Although the healthcare system will never be perfect, we need to work to accomplish our goals of improving the healthcare system for the patient and medical provider.
If I were to enter into the healthcare workforce today, I would educate my patients and keep their best interest in mind at all times. Technological advances in medicine are growing rapidly, my goal is to be a leader in the expanse of medical technology. I would want to bring more advanced medical technology to rural clinics and hospitals to make diagnosing and treating patients more efficient and economical. By having the technology we need to operate proficiently, the care giver would be able to spend more time with patients and treat them with compassion. To better the community I live in, I would like to expand our annual health clinic. This new clinic would provide vaccinations for children and educate the public about health safety. Basic CPR, emergency procedures, and promoting healthcare careers to help end the shortage of medical workers would also be incorporated.
I also would like to work with Doctors Without Borders to provide global healthcare.
Providing well-child checkups for children who live in poverty and have never seen a doctor would greatly decrease their risk for health problems. Educating pregnant women about prenatal healthcare would be beneficial to both mother and child. Providing vaccinations for children will help lower the death rates. Safely delivering a baby and making sure the baby has regular checkups is critical for the well-being of both baby and mother. Although this is a small list of what I want to accomplish with Doctors Without Borders, it will help save many lives. We often take basic healthcare in United States for granted.
In conclusion, this scholarship would greatly help to further my education and to reach my goal of becoming a doctor. By investing in my education, you not only help me, but all my future patients. Education is the key to a successful healthcare system. We need to educate the public about the importance of the shortage of healthcare providers and the effects it can have on them. We need compassionate, dedicated healthcare providers to treat patients. I want to be at the forefront of educating, diagnosing, and treating patients. I, Cierra Kahrs, want to be a healthcare
provider.
