Primarily these questions were chosen in hopes to benefit myself in my chosen degree. I am pursuing Bachelors in Criminal Justice. Secondly, these questions touch close to home for me personally; as I have a parent currently incarcerated who, after twenty years behind bars, is being released next year from a federal penitentiary.
The sources I will be using in obtaining my information will be those of the psychological kind including, journal articles, books, and web resources. I am also hoping to include an interview of some sort with a person’s knowledgeable with criminal rehabilitation.
I have many concerns regarding the rehabilitation of criminals and the likelihood of recidivism, a tendency to return to criminal behavior, on released prisoners. I am constantly worried about my father being released into a world that has grown and changed so immensely in the last twenty years. He, along with the thousands of other prisoners released each year, faces many challenges upon his reentry into society. His criminal record, lack of work experience, age, as well as the economy in the state it’s currently in and horrible job market place major strains on his success in the real world, outside the bars. I hope to use my research findings not only to help my own family member be successful, in a world that seems almost foreign to him after so long, but also be able to help the people that I will be working with every day in my chosen career
