Criminology 30 week 3
What measures can you take to better protect yourself from crime?
The increase in personal crime calls for a need to protect oneself. Personal protection makes one feel secure. To feel secure from personal crimes and other form of crimes, one has to take certain measures. From my experience, I have a number of measures that I can take to enhance personal protection from crime. I base these measures on personal experience.
I would enhance self-defense by training martial arts. Martial art is a great form of self-defense. Second, I will avoid walking alone in the dark, and in lonely places. In case I walk in the dark, I will make sure that I am with a friend at all times.
This is because a friend can be of help in case I encounter an attack. In addition, when I get out at night I will make sure that my family members are aware, and after I reach my destination I would let them know. Conversely, I would call back when something happens to me. In case I do not call back, they should inform the police or call me. I will also ensure that I pack my car at a place where it can be seen, and make sure that all the doors are closed. At times when I carry a purse or any valuable luggage, I will ensure that it is out of sight from other people.
Enhancing my habitual security is another way that I will use to take responsibility of personal security. This implies that I should have an active mind and body. I will pay attention to my instincts, surroundings and the people around me. In addition, I will take the responsibility of being informed on crime hotspot areas and avoid them. Finally, I will carry a pepper spray or a gun in areas or places where pepper spray is prohibited.
