There are several opinions stating that firearms are beneficial to own in one’s lives. In the article “The Accessibility of Guns Protects Lives,” written by David M. Huntwork informs us that gun protection should not be overlooked as a negative aspect, but instead as a positive source. David’s opening remark stated, “Empowering…
Gun control advocates focus on the serious negative effects on gun availability on safety, while gun ownership advocates emphasize the lawful use of guns and their place in our history and culture. While our history and culture is important we need to address the current national problem in order to live in a safe enough society. In an effort to stabilize and decrease firearm related injuries and deaths in the U.S. a strong federal law to control guns is needed. In the bigger picture, we people will see the United States, as a Nation, as a better safer place to live in and not to die…
Campuses grow more vulnerable every day as the nation continues on its downward spiral. Since 2010, the country has witnessed over a hundred shootings committed on school campuses. Shootings on school grounds, whether it is an elementary or post graduate school is far from a new concept. During the 1990s’ Congress implemented multiple Gun Free School Zone Acts for federally funded schools to help create safer school zones by preventing any gun related violence. The problem being that the gun free school zones act only designates distances that keep law abiding citizens defenseless, while any potential criminal has a safe haven to commit their crime with no fear of initial response. Every certified…
Ever since school shootings on campuses many people have been skeptical about guns in the wrong hands of people. David Burnett writer of "Students Should Have the Right to Carry Guns on College Campuses.", agrees with the fact that students should be allowed to have guns on campus, for the use of self defense, for decreasing the crimes committed, and because colleges aren’t as safe as you think. Although Darby Dickerson writer of "Students Should Not Be Allowed to Carry Guns on College Campuses.", is on the other side arguing that concealed carry laws increased violence on college campuses, guns on campus lead to bad accidents and homicide, and that even though college kids are mature enough to have guns their brains are still…
We’ve all seen it in the newspapers- kids accidently killing their family, their friends, or even themselves. A pure, innocent life should not be taken because of the parent’s careless mistake of keeping a gun at easy access for children. In the recent years, this has been becoming a problem, especially for family with youthful kids. Young children should not be taught how to handle guns because they don’t have the understanding that a gun can potentially kill or seriously injure someone, they’re constantly being exposed to violent movies/videogames, and most kids do not know the difference between real and fake guns.…
America is a free and privileged country, but the main reason we’re able to have all the rights we have is because we have soldiers all over the world fighting for our freedom. All the soldiers know when they go into battle they may not be able to see their families again but they still choose to go and fight for our rights and freedom. Freedoms such a Freedom Of Speech,, Freedom Of Religion and The Right To Bear Arms. Those are a few rights that we have as Americans and of course there are many more those are a few that are commonly known.…
Your home alone on a cool quiet night; you roll over and witness a large individual kick in your door with a twelve gauge shotgun. You hear him coming up the stairs, what do you do? Run? Call the police, or do you grab your gun and protect you and your children. Now if you were to take the gun out of the situation what would you have done? The intruder is already in your house where your kids sleep at night, and the police's response time is not going to be fast enough. What if you were able to hide, well you can not hide forever and eventually he will find you. No matter what you think, or how you feel about guns; if you were to put yourself in that position. You would be very grateful for the gun that saved you and your precious children.…
Laws having to do with gun control should have stricter regulations and require more in-depth background checks before anyone is allowed to purchase a fire arm. Gun control has been a major debate for a very long time now. It started hundreds of years ago in different parts of the world and continues today. Though there are always two sides to an argument, I firmly believe that being pro-gun control is important.…
With all the shootings and bombings that has happened in the past year. There are a lot of people that thinks that guns would be best if they would be taken away. If the guns would be taken away that would be taking an American right that no one can take away other than yourself. I’m all for safety but I think everyone should keep their guns. “In America, there are approximately 270 million firearms possessed by civilians, and only 897,000 carried by police.”…
Most people who own guns, are the legal owners of that weapon (“Kates”1). Other countries and some states in the United States that restrict gun laws have more murders than places that do not have gun laws (“Guns in”3). In the United Kingdom they banned handguns in 1997. Since then, the attack and crime rate went up 77%. This is equivalent to two attacks every two minutes. (“Guns in”3). This is further evidence that guns are not just for killing, guns are for…
Today, we are living in a world where one moment you are laughing, and in a blink of an eye you wind up either dead or in the hospital due to random gun violence. US leads amongst all the developed nations in mass murder due to gun violence and gun abuse. Between 1976 and 2012, most high-income countries did not experience a single shooting. The U.S. witnessed 16 shootings involving 7 or more fatalities, resulting in 241 deaths, more than all the other developed countries combined.…

Gun ownership has the capability to positively assist a home occupant during a burglary. A burglar can be convinced to leave the home in the presence of a gun-wielding occupant, or a gun-owner can exercise his right to self-defence and harm the intruder, effectively ending the home invasion. With this in mind, it can appear to be a good idea to own a gun in the event of home invasion. But does this really mean that owning a gun will protect from home invasion? Or that having a gun at the time of the invasion will guarantee a positive outcome? And, in the event there is no home invasion, but a presence of a gun in the home, is the home owner really protected? The research in this area is limited and gun control studies are lacking in this area that focuses immediately on gun ownership and its relationship to positive outcomes in home invasions.…
One of the biggest controversial topics in America today is Gun Control, whether we should or should not have gun control. The Government claims that if they take the guns away, that there will be a drop in deaths and crimes. The Second Amendment state that every citizen of the United States of America has a right to bare arms(ProCon#1). The Gun Control Law will take away that right completely, along with some of our freedom. If the Gun Control Law is enforced in the United States, our hunting right will be removed, our self-defense right will be taken away, and it will amplify the problem.…
I believe that people should have the right to bear arms in their home. I want to protect myself and my family from possible danger. The gun should have a trigger lock on the weapon and a lock on the box, in which the gun is stored. However, the presence of this weapon has resulted in accidental injury, suicide, homicide, and domestic violence (p315). According to this article, the presence of a firearm in the home reportedly results in death or injury to household members or visitors over 12 times more often than to an intruder (p315). This report has somewhat influenced my initial thoughts about guns to be more hazard to my own family than to an intruder.…
