As a result of the process, my product was undoubtedly a success. The product meets all of the criteria including being easy for a beginner to understand and being effective in teaching someone to play the violin After testing, I needed to do a little bit of tweaking with the help of my sister. Since she helped me test my product, it was nice to get her feedback. My research about teaching helped me to explain things while testing and helped me to set up my handbook in a way that organized the concepts from easiest to hardest. Additionally, my planning allowed me to visualize what the guide was going to look like and what content would be found in each chapter of the book (see appendix K).

Most of my friends played instruments and those that did not never really talked about music and instruments. This meant that I had no experience talking to beginners and explaining basic concepts like note names, bowing, and key signatures. This made it especially hard to phrase my handbook in a way that a beginner would understand it. Even though my skills were rusty in the beginning, my experience in teaching allowed me to grow. It helped that my student was also my sister because she was honest when what I was saying was not helping. I have learned to be more patient and to listen to what someone is trying to say. I know now that teaching someone and telling someone about something are two different concepts and I have room for improvement in both. I shared my communication skills with my peers when one of my friends showed interest in learning to play the violin. I used phrases like “hitchhiker's wrist”, “finger houses”, and “flying fingers” to try and help the reader visualize. I used common sayings like Every Good Boy Does Fine and FACE so that the reader could memorize the notes in a “nursery rhyme” type of way. Another strength was the use of images which I found was helpful to my student. One weakness that I found was the organization. I had placed the images before the explanations which afterwards was found to be confusing. Another weakness was the difficulty of the songs I had originally placed in the guide. They came from a level three book but they were all I had since I did not have any beginner books. I eventually found a simple version of Ode to Joy that my sister was able to
