In my family, we have several different cultural based remedies. These remedies have been passed down from my grandparents to my parents. If we have a cuts or scars we use the lemon with salt. If we have a bad cough we take a tablespoon of honey with salt to reduce phlegm. If we detect a signs of strep throat we gargle a cup of salt with warm water to throat reduce pain or any inflammation. If we have a pimple or get a burn we use put toothpaste on the affected to help reduce inflammation and reduces pain. Lastly, if we are constipated we drink two tablespoon of orange juice with mineral oil.
In order to be qualified as sick in my household my parents need to see real signs of a sickness. For instance, if we felt like we have fever my mothers would check our temperature with a thermometer to make sure we are not lying.
