Cultural Competence In The Workplace

Cultural Competence Given that I have had previous experience with people from various cultures and differing worldviews, I may have more of an advantage than most with this topic. I have lived in group housing that taught me valuable lessons in dealing with those who have different ideas and values than me, and found that if I allow myself to be open and receptive, I can see where others’ perspectives originate, and find something worthwhile in other’s disputes. Pondering my worldview biases raised a concern for me that I may be prejudice against those who have committed offenses against children, or who have been abusive to women. I believe if this would come up as an issue, I would be compelled to ask my supervisor how to approach the situation. Furthermore, I would like to learn more about the Latino culture and have been wanting to learn the language for decades, but fear that becoming bilingual may be an unrealistic goal.
