What is Cultural Competence?
Cultural competence allows people to understand the differences between cultures, eliminating any bias against other cultures; this allows the individual to be respectful and understanding of other cultures. Therefore within these cultures, although there are differences in values, beliefs and attitudes, there is a mutual respect and understanding to others and their cultures, hence attempts to eliminate conflict between cultures. The objective of cultural competence is to integrate the understandings of different cultures, through our relationships, attitudes and how we honour and celebrate diversity. This allows us as individuals to recognise and appreciate the cultural diversity within our multicultural nation
