Cultural Scavenger Hunt Analysis
Walmart Cultural Scavenger Hunt In my cultural scavenger hunt assignment I was asked to locate various items relating to culture at a large department store. On Sunday around noon I visit my local neighborhood Walmart for the cultural scavenger hunt. This store is located in Southeast Portland on 82nd avenue. The store is considered to be in the Happy Valley neighborhood. However, I must note, this store is on the outskirts of the Happy Valley neighborhood. Therefore, this store has a wide range of demographics. Just East of the store, the neighborhood is considered to be the upper middle class, while the neighborhood to the West is regarded as the lower class. First, I looked at the greeting cards. I did not find any greeting cards relating

The two stores’ atmospheres that I will compare in this paper will be J.C. Penney and Kohl’s. Both stores are very similar in every aspect. They are both retailers that offer a variety of goods, such as apparel, shoes, and accessories for women, children and men, and home products such as small electronics, kitchen electrics, electric shavers, toothbrushes, vacuums & floor care, bedding, toys, and luggage. Basically anything you would ever need to survive except for food is offered at both of these retailers.…

These stores are always filled with students and teachers in the morning and when school is over. There is also a bus stop, which is the transport that I take in the morning. The bus is always crowded yet it’s a very popular way to get to school, since the closes train station is quite far. In the other side there is also a dollar store, which is popular within the neighborhood. The language that is mostly spoken in the neighborhood is Spanish. However the neighborhood is very diverse and many others speak Arabic, Mestizo, French, Wolof and…

The text, “Watching a Medic, Sicily, August 9, 1943”, illustrates the occupation of a medic in action during WWII. This text shows a medic helping another soldier in Sicily. In the background of the image there is a poor and deprived family looking upon the medic performing his duty of helping the injured soldier. This image shows what a medic’s lifestyle was like during the war. Medics had to perform their medical duties in places where injuries occurred, making it especially tough in the areas of where war was occurring. The image shows the historical context of the invasion of Sicily that took place during the same time as the picture. The image also shows the cultural context in relation with the lives of the natives living in Sicily. The occupation of medics and their lifestyle, the topic of war and military invasion, and the inhabitants of the homeland of Sicily, can all be accurately embedded within the tangible meaning of what it was like during the time of this visual text.…

This is not so much a cultural event, as it is a cultural collection of one of the most unique ways of making art – by using glass. At the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art one can find collections of American art pottery, collections of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century American paintings, graphics, decorative art, and most importantly the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany. I visited this museum located in Winter Park, Florida in close proximity to Rollins College on the 18th of March 2007 at around 2 p.m.…

I have lived in Mexico for the most part of my life and I also lived in the United States a couple years ago; language was never a barrier to me since I knew enough english to get around even if I was not sure if I was saying everything the correct way, I never felt intimidated by language until I arrived in France, at first it was very hard for me to get around due to the fact that I only knew a few words in french like “merci”, “mon amie”, “Je te aime” and “bonjour” of course it was not enough to even try, or at least that’s what I thought until I started trying to speak english to french people. Unlike experiences I’ve had in other countries before, in France it seemed impossible to find someone who spoke other language than their native one.…
