On the opposite side, there are small grocery stores and fired chicken stores.
These stores are always filled with students and teachers in the morning and when school is over. There is also a bus stop, which is the transport that I take in the morning. The bus is always crowded yet it’s a very popular way to get to school, since the closes train station is quite far. In the other side there is also a dollar store, which is popular within the neighborhood. The language that is mostly spoken in the neighborhood is Spanish. However the neighborhood is very diverse and many others speak Arabic, Mestizo, French, Wolof and
Bengali. In Ps. 35x I will be analyzing my second grade ENL class. I have two co-teachers since second grade is departmentize, which means that one teacher teaches math and science while another teacher teaches English and social studies. One week the students will have English in the morning and then math in the afternoon. The next week would have math in the morning and then English in the afternoon. My class is ENL and I have 21 Emerging bilingual. This is an integrated co-teaching class and only one student this year is being recommended for special education services. My main job to provide ENL services to my students in the main subject areas so I follow them around. I will explore deeply into the math class. The school is diverse. The majority of the teachers including myself is Hispanic and speaks Spanish. We have African Americans, White, Asian, Jamaican and Europeans. The lowest minority group is Asian since we only have one teacher and a occupational therapist and the health teacher. Majority of the students are Hispanic and they speak either Spanish or a dialect called Mestizo. There is also a great portion of African American students. There are small minority groups of Arab, Wolof and French students. The merging bilingual students speak their native language and as well as English in some degree. Those faculty and staff that speak both languages, I noticed that do it in the school. I myself speak English and also in Spanish. Even teachers that speak little Spanish I will hear them trying to saying words in Spanish to community with the students. Lastly, majority of the parents speak Spanish while the minorities’ parents speak English, Arab, Wolof and French.
